Hours before the 2014 IDPA Nationals, the folks at IDPA HQ left the following message on the IDPA Facebook page ruling the CZ Accu-Shadow illegal for SSP:

Another business bans respectfully requests that you don’t bring a gun into their stores.

Today on the Today Show, Jeff Rossen talked about how to protect your family from a home invasion.

It starts out pretty benign. Keep your bedroom doors open so you can hear noises, bring your car keys into the bedroom so you can punch the panic button, etc

But then…

Zeins also suggests keeping another item in your bedroom: “Buy a can of wasp hornet spray in the hardware store or the supermarket, keep it by your bedside or the floor,” he said. “It’s more powerful than police Mace.

Keep wasp spray next to your bed to spray in the intruders eyes. Yeah… No.

Wasp spray is for wasps.

Bird shot is for birds.

If noise really is the best deterrent, I prefer the sound of lead breaking the sound barrier…

This week we talk about the future of NC gun laws. In the past 5 or so years we’ve seen huge gains in the concealed carry laws in the state, but we would like to see more.

I only managed to get video of 4 of the 6 stages at the match, but got most of the highlights. Stages were fantastic and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Yesterday I shot the H2O Fowl Farms “Coins for Children” charity IDPA match. The match was raising money for the Coins for Children charity that works to end child sex trafficing. The stages were fantastic: big, challenging, and fun.

We’ll talk more about the match on Episode 98 of the podcast which will release early Monday morning. Stay tuned.

You may remember Brian Aitken as the guy who was arrested for a rediculious charge in NJ, getting sentenced to 7 years in prison, and thankfully getting his sentence commuted by Governor Christie. Unfortunately Brian is still technically a convicted felon, and is being stripped of his rights because of the conviction.

Ladies, I know you’re out there! Candy Sugarman (who I interviewed in Episode 94 of the podcast) is asking for female shooters to contact her to be interviewed about shooting from a woman’s perspective.

Here in the Triangle, we’re in the middle of an explosion of big box outdoors stores that sell guns. It started with the Gander Mountain in Morrisville, then the Bass Pro Shop in Cary, then another Gander Mountain in Raleigh, this week a Field & Stream store in Cary, and we’re waiting on a Cabela’s in Garner next year, with rumors still swirling about the possibility of an Academy sports coming to the area sometime soon as well.

In the past 5 years, the number of concealed carry permit holders in Wake Co. has grown by 77% according to the Triangle Business Journal.

We asked the Facebook Page for their competition shooting gripes, and we received a ton of responses. This week we went through a bunch of them and tried to explain the intent behind the rule, or the reason that others share the same gripe.

Whenever there is a month with a 5th weekend, a bunch of the shooting ranges around Eastern NC like to have special shooting matches that they don’t host in their normal match rotation. This coming weekend is the 5th weekend, so here’s some of the matches taking place:

I generally carry 9 round extended magazine as a backup for my Springfield Armory XDs 9mm. When I carried a S&W Shield, I carried the 8 round magazine as a backup, and when I carried a Glock 19, I kept a 17 round Glock 17 magazine as a backup.

This past weekend in a fit of lazy afternoon gunblogging, Luke posted an article about Han Solo’s encounter with Greedo the bounty hunter in the Mos Eisley cantina. Now I’m no Andrew Branca (but I’m still a big fan of his) so I was pearl-clutchingly shocked to see a self-defense article on this blog that didn’t mention the five elements of a self-defense claim.

Claude Werner talks about the incident in Arizona with the 9-year old who lost control of a fully automatic Uzi and killed her instructor:

The folks over st spsamurai.com published blog post recently about “Ballistic Masturbation” and Entertrainment (A term that Chris Clifton from Defensive Concepts talked about in Episode 85 of our podcast.)

I could name some names here, but I don’t think that is super important. What’s important is that you do your homework on a trainer before paying them a few hundred bucks for shooting instruction. I don’t care if someone has military or law enforcement expeience, I care about their philsophy or training, that they think the same things are important as I do, and their ability to demonstrate what they are teaching.

We actually covered how to pick a trainer way back in episode 82 of the podcast as well.
