Michigan Bowfisherman Catches Potential State Record Black Buffalo
Sage Colegrove of Muskegon, Michigan may have arrowed the state's next record black buffalo the night of April 12. According to MLive, the massive 45.4-pound fish was caught in an undisclosed location in the Grand River and was so heavy that it bent the gaff hook that Colegrove used to pull the fish up.
"It was very exhilarating," Colegrove said. "It was really, really cold, but it was worth it."

4 Revolvers Used by Famous Lawmen and Outlaws of the Old West
We love the lore around famous firearms. If Billy the Kid actually owned every gun a great uncle claimed to have squirreled away in the family safe, he would have carried a new gun everyday of his life. Some actually have the provenance---the paper-trail proof---to back up their claims, and when they do, they end up in museums or auction blocks. Here are four historically significant guns from the one-year-old NRA National Sporting Arms Museum at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri. It is an incredible place...
Video: Florida Man Discovers Shark in His Backyard
Crazy things happen in Florida, and if you live on the coast near Bonita Springs, then don't be too surprised if you see a shark cruising past your house. According to WINK-TV, one resident was shocked when he spotted an estimated eight to nine-foot shark just swimming near the the backyard of his condo.
"I'm worried," said resident Richard Frey. "I won't let our grandkids go in the water. Someone is going to be attacked here."
Local anglers have also noticed an increase in bull sharks, not...

Video: How to Fool a Coyote and Get Away with It
While scouting for turkeys, Tim Farmer of Kentucky Afield spotted a coyote roaming around looking for a meal. The hunter may have left his gun at home, but he decided to have a little fun with the critter nonetheless. A skillful call drew the predator in on almost a dead run, and you can almost see the disappointment on its face when it realizes it's been had.

Video: Grouper Won’t Take No for an Answer
If there is one fish that seems to have an utter disdain for humans, it's the grouper. Large or small, groupers are about as polite as a hungry warthog and will think little of giving you a hard nip if you get too close. This group of divers learned the hard way that if you want to take fish out of a grouper's territory, you'll have to get it past them first.
It seems that the divers had collected a small lionfish, an invasive and environmentally destructive fish in many places, and the grouper decided it was in the mood for a quick snack.

Turkey Hunters: Are You Prepared for Avian Flu?
With the approach of turkey season, state wildlife agencies like the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are warning hunters to take extra precautions when harvesting turkeys. This is due to avian flu, a highly contagious and deadly virus that is capable of infecting both wild and domestic birds. Although avian flu has not yet been confirmed in wild turkeys, a recent outbreak among farmed turkeys in Minnesota has resulted in the euthanization of more than half a million birds. Avian flu can also be spread by other wild birds such as Canada geese.
“Turkey hunters can take...
Why One Man Quit His Engineering Job to Make Flowers Out of Bullets
Until earlier this month, Anthony Zambai was a software engineer in Colorado. Along with being a husband and just recently, a new father, Anthony had job security, a steady paycheck, and bosses he had to answer to. That changed, however, when he decided to quit his job and instead spend his days shooting thousands of hollow-point rounds into polypropylene drums filled with water.
It's not as crazy as it sounds.
For the past five weeks, Anthony has been running a small business that makes tiny, lead flowers from expanded hollowpoint bullets. He calls it Read more »
Video: Arizona Officer Uses Car to Ram Man Accused of Stealing Rifle
A recently-released video of a police vehicle ramming an armed suspect went viral earlier this week, leading some to ask whether it was an overly aggressive deployment of force or a justified act that potentially saved lives.
On February 19, police in Marana, Arizona said they stopped a man in the middle of a crime spree by hitting him with a patrol vehicle. According to KVOA, officer Michael Rapiejko struck 36-year-old Mario Valencia as he walked along on the...

Ricky Gervais Takes Aim at Giraffe Hunter, Incites Outrage Online
Rebecca Francis, an American huntress and adventurer who has appeared on shows like Eye of the Hunter, hardly expected a picture that she took five years ago to come back and haunt her. Yet on Monday, English comedian Ricky Gervais singled her out for criticism by tweeting a picture of Francis posed next to a giraffe that she harvested half a decade ago in Africa.
What must've happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling? pic.twitter.com/DyYw1T5ck2

Video: Man Wrestling Wild Hog Gets Flipped on His Back
Tusks or no tusks, wild pigs can be dangerous animals. Hunting them can be riskier than many sportsmen bargain for, and trying to wrestle one can be downright foolhardy. This trapper in East Texas found himself a bit out of his element as he tried to wrangle a large sow into a cage. Notice how the pig repeatedly went after his legs. Both male and female hogs use tusks for defense, and if this one had a set, no doubt it would have tried to gore the man.
Thankfully, though, the trapper survived the event with little more than possibly a few bruises, and the indignity of being flipped onto...
10 New Outdoor Knives and Tools to Keep an Eye on in 2015
It's already mid-April, and that means that the products showcased at this year's SHOT Show have already long left Las Vegas and started appearing on store shelves. Included among them are this year's batch of new knives and outdoor tools, and there are quite a few new designs that may make you sit up and take notice. Sure, you may still wear your father's battered old bowie into the woods or that Buck folder that's been in your car for the last 20 years, but there's no harm in looking, right?
Here is my list of the 10 new knives and tools for 2015 that you might want to keep an eye on. If...
Expanded Season Leads to Record Bear Harvests in Southern New York
A new early bear hunting season in the Catskills and western Hudson Valley may have translated to record bear harvests in southern New York. According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Empire State hunters bagged 1,628 black bears in 2014, up from 1,358 in 2013. Roughly 1,100 of this year's harvests were from the Southern Zone, making it the best season for that region on record.
"With bear hunting areas expanded throughout upstate New York and a special early bear season in portions of the Catskills and...
The BAREBOW! Chronicles: The Boone and Crockett Bino-buck
In early 1999, Mark Buehrer of Bowhunting Safari Consultants (BSC) sparked my interest in booking a hunt for the elusive Coues’ deer south of the border in old Mexico. Often referred to by hunters as the Gray Ghost of the Southwest, this diminutive subspecies of whitetail is the smallest of the five huntable types of deer in North America. Its US range is limited to southwestern New Mexico and the central and southern portions of Arizona. Across the border, it is found throughout the State of Sonora, and in parts of several other Mexican states, as well. Named after a nineteenth century...
Video: Two Men Drag Their Way Across Frozen River to Rescue Deer
This is one deer that didn't read the thin ice signs posted nearby. In fact, the ice on Minnesota's Red Lake River was more like slush than anything solid when this deer fell through recently. Crookston firefighter Chris Klawitter and DNR officer Ross Hier volunteered to go out on the lake in a small boat to rescue the trapped deer, eventually dragging themselves across the river by using long hooks to catch the ice.
It was a dangerous trip, especially since the boat had a good chance of tipping over at any time. Fortunately, the men were able to retrieve the deer without much problem and...
Cat-eating Monitor Lizards Invade Florida, Officials Ask Public for Help
They are large, they are hungry, and they have been in Florida since at least the early 1990s. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Nile monitor lizards have breeding populations in at least three counties and have been sighted across the state. On warm days, the lizards can be seen basking in the sun along the waterways in Palm Beach County, or even sauntering on beaches. Since surveys of the species started last year, officials have become increasingly worried over what kind of effect the lizard could have on the state. This is especially true since the...
Tim McGraw to Headline Gun Control Concert
This summer, country star Tim McGraw is scheduled to headline a special concert for Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), a gun control advocacy group founded shortly after the tragic 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. SHP made the announcement on Tuesday and posted information for the special concert to its website.
"We are so grateful and excited to announce that on July 17th, Tim McGraw will be playing a show in Hartford, CT," the organisation stated in a press release. "Proceeds will honor SHP and...
