Video: Australian Man Catches Shark with His Bare Hands
Brace yourselves for what appears to be a display of one of the most Australian things one can possibly do. After spotting a shark in some shallow water near the city of Mackay, the man in the video below apparently decided that the best possible thing he could do was trudge out toward it and manhandle it a bit.
We'd like to see him try the same with a great white.

Source of Antarctica’s “Bleeding Glacier” Found
Since 1911, explorers and visitors to the Taylor Glacier have wondered about the blood-red liquid that flowed from what has been dubbed "Blood Falls" in Victoria Land, Antarctica. Scientists originally attributed the phenomenon to red algae, but a new study has found that the liquid's blood-like appearance is actually due to bacteria living within the brine flowing across the valley.
"This study shows Blood Falls isn't just a weird little seep," the study's lead author, microbiologist Jill Mikucki, told Live...
Video: Watch the First Triple Backflip Ever Performed on a Motocross Bike
Josh Sheehan of Nitro Circus may be considered by many to be a daredevil, but this stunt may have some questioning his sanity altogether. According to his team, this triple backflip---believed to be the first undertaken on a motocross bike---took over a year of preparation and was finally pulled off on April 28 at Pastranaland in Maryland.
Sheehan, a 29-year-old rider from Australia, launched off the ramp at 60 mph and reached 80 feet in the air at his peak. The three backflips were made flawlessly and Sheehan came back to earth amid cheers.

The BAREBOW! Chronicles: El Flechador del Sol
As the young Alabaman walked toward me and stuck out his hand, my mind silently translated the Spanish words emblazoned on the front of his colorful T-shirt. “The Archer of the Sun,” they read. I had met David Green one year earlier at the annual SCI Hunters Convention in Reno. SCI had been kind enough to offer me a couple of book-signings for my just-published book, BAREBOW!, and David had dropped by my signing table to take a look at the work. He’d had with him his lovely Mexican wife, Cristina, and I learned quickly that David was already well immersed in the culture of...
The 5 Best Short-range AR Optics
What’s the “best” anyway? It all depends on the ranking criteria, right? Is the “best” car one that hits 60 mph in 2.9 seconds or one that can tow the lower half of South Dakota to Manitoba?
The same goes with optics, so as I own the ink until this article goes live and comments open, I’m going to define the selection criteria. To me, a great short-range AR optic must offer speed and just enough precision to hit something accurately inside of 200 yards, with a strong emphasis on less than 50 yards. Magnification features allowing me to see a gnat’s eye color at 400 yards is...
Oklahoma Man Lands Largest Fish in State History
Last Thursday, an Oklahoma angler crushed the record for the largest fish ever caught in the state with an alligator gar that weighed a staggering 254 pounds. Paul Easley of Mead snagged the beast of a fish in Lake Texoma last week and was able to have the fish certified by a state wildlife biologist before releasing the eight-foot gar back into the water.
“It did swim off,” Matt Mauck, regional fisheries supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), told The...
Video: How to Start a Fire with a Guitar Pick
It's time to set your matches aside, this neat tip from survival expert Creek Stewart will teach you in a few simple steps how to start fires with a guitar pick.
As it turns out, guitar picks made of celluloid are highly flammable and can be shaved to provide fire starting material. Since picks are small, cheap, and easy to store, this makes them ideal for building emergency fires.
Black Scout Survival demonstrates in the video below how a celluloid pick can be used to start a fire. Notice how quickly the pick burns up and then dies down. While it may not replace your current fire...

Video: Black Bears Break into Florida Homeowner’s Pool to Play
There is no shortage of places to swim in the coastal city of Naples, Florida, yet a trio of young black bears seems to have taken a liking to one family's pool. According to the homeowner, who posted a video of the cavorting bears on YouTube, the bruins had torn a hole through the patio screen in February and frequently returned to drink water or play at the water's edge.
"Though I enjoyed seeing them this close, it is best for the bears to not become too accustomed to our home environments, for everyone's safety, including theirs," wrote Judy Burris, the homeowner. "About a week later I...
Video: Snarling Raccoons Attack Coyote over Squirrel Meat
If you've never heard an angry raccoon growl before, it's likely to send a shiver down your spine. These masked critters can be downright frightening when provoked, yet the coyote in the video below was just too hungry to leave its meal behind.
Two raccoons tried to the scavenger off what appears to be a squirrel carcass, but the dogged coyote kept coming back to snag one last bite. This trail cam happened to be just in the right place at the right time and recorded a pursuit that looks like it came straight out of a cartoon.
We're not sure if the coyote did finally get its meal, but...

The Detroit River: One of the Best Walleye Fishing Spots Around
There are only two possible explanations for not fishing the Detroit River when the walleyes are going in the spring: either you live a thousand miles away or you don’t fish.
There are an estimated 2.4 million walleyes moving through the Detroit River in the spring. There’s 32 miles of river. Do the math. That’s 75,000 fish per mile. You almost can’t drop a jig without hitting a walleye on the head with it.
Not that that means you’ll load the boat. You’ve still got to make them bite, play them, and land them. But limit-catches are fairly common and if you know which end of...
Video: 90-year-old Tortoise Gets Wheels for Legs Following Rat Attack
The tortoise in the video below, named---no joke---Mrs T, apparently suffered a brutal rat attack while she was hibernating. She lost nearly all of her two front legs, but luckily she's got good friends in human places.
Her owners glued wheels from a model aircraft onto her shell, allowing her to stay mobile---and maybe even move a little bit faster than she could "pre-augmentation."
Watch her in action in the video from The Telegraph below.

Make Your Dream Bowhunt a Reality with These 5 Easy Steps
You’ve always wanted to hunt deer in one of the destination states. You watch big bucks get shot on TV each week, but you really don’t have hunting like that where you live. Here’s a short course in how to get started on your dream bowhunt out of state.
Years ago, I was like you. I knew there was a lot of great bowhunting out there, but it wasn’t where I lived. I had a gnawing desire to shoot a really nice buck, but I knew I was going to have to travel to do it. I didn’t want to (really couldn’t) spend $4,000 on a guided hunt, so a DIY hunt it would have to be. I took...

Singapore Develops Non-lethal AR-style Rifle
