Soderberg: Politicians Talk About Seizing Illegal Guns, But It Does Nothing to Stop Violent Crime

Thu, 12/22/2022 - 08:00

Former Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld told me in 2018 that he began to realize that seizing guns was a bit like fighting the drug war. It felt “endless,” he explained.

“In Baltimore, at the peak of when we were seizing guns—when we were really effective going after guns and trying to get guns off the street—Baltimore PD would take in about 2,500 to 3,000 guns,” Bealefeld said. “Every year in the state of Maryland—every year—30,000 brand-new guns were being sold.

Gun Rights Win: Texas Abandons Appeal of Ruling Allowing Adults Under 21 to Carry Handguns

Wed, 12/21/2022 - 10:00

The Bruen decision was like a lightening bolt to the heart of the gun control industry in this country. They knew when they read its language and realized its scope, that it meant much of the infrastructure that underlies the gun control laws that have been built up over the decades is now very much at risk.

One of the first examples of that came in August when a US District Court ruled, in a case brought by the Firearms Policy Coalition, that Texas’s ban on adults under 21 years old carrying firearms was unconstitutional.

Savage Arms Gets Into the 1911 Pistol Business

Wed, 12/21/2022 - 09:00

Many moons ago, the Savage 1907 and the 1911 fought for supremacy. The US Army, as we all know now, picked John Moses Browning’s 1911 design over the .45 caliber Savage 1907. The rest, as they say is history.

History has taken a new turn as Savage Arms announced today that they’re now in the 1911 business. Savage says “The US Military’s M1911 is now being given the Savage treatment.” They’ve introduced three new models — Melonite, stainless and two-tone — that are available both with and without a rail.

OMG! The New York Times Uncovers NRA Support for Junior R.O.T.C.! OMG!

Wed, 12/21/2022 - 08:00

“The militarization of the kids, especially vulnerable kids, is what bothered me,” said Ms. [Deborah] Teal, who added that some students at her former school had started an unsuccessful petition to end the marksmanship program.

The program remains at nearby Santiago High School, in Garden Grove, where it has enjoyed support.

Michael H. Manney, a J.R.O.T.C. instructor at Santiago, wrote to the N.R.A. Foundation this year to say that the marksmanship program had helped draw more students into J.R.O.T.C.

The CDC Caving to Gun Gun Control Groups’ Pressure is the Very Definition of Political Corruption

Tue, 12/20/2022 - 14:00

By Joe Bartozzi

Last week’s bombshell report by The Reload showing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) purposefully omitted defensive-use data sets after being lobbied by gun control groups shows serious concerns with the government-funded agency that’s charged with saving lives and protecting people from health threats.

The revelation of twisting data to meet pre-determined conclusions is the antithesis of science. It is nothing short of censorship.

Gear Review: Defender Tactical Universal Minishell Adapter for Mossberg Pump Shotguns

Tue, 12/20/2022 - 12:00

I’ve talked a lot about mini shells, and I’ve experimented with all the varieties I can get my hands on. I’m still trying to get my hands on some of the Mason Munitions No.1 mini shells, but they are continually sold out.

One of my biggest complaints about mini shells is compatibility. Recently Defender Tactical came to my attention, and their Universal Mini Shell Adapter seemed too good to be true. I reached out, and they agreed to send me one to test and review.

There’s One Big Problem with the Social Science ‘Gun Violence’ Studies the Media Love to Tout – The Scientists

Tue, 12/20/2022 - 10:00

From the NRA-ILA . . .

Social science is in the midst of a replication crisis. This means the findings of many published social science papers cannot be reproduced and are likely invalid. A new paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) sheds light on the scale of the problem and calls into question the veracity of social science research in general, including that which anti-gun advocates use to push for gun control.

FELONY STUPID: Man Walks Into Dearborn, MI PD, Pulls Gun, Gets Shot Dead

Mon, 12/19/2022 - 16:00

Roughly half of the American population is smarter than average.  And then there’s people who missed the smart bus as a kid.  People like the man named Ali Naji who strolled into the Dearborn, MI police department Sunday afternoon.  Instead of delivering Christmas wishes or asking for services, Mr. Naji pulled a gun stolen less than an hour before and tried to shoot a uniformed cop working the front desk.

Fortunately, Mr. Aspiring Rocket Scientist’s gun malfunctioned.

Gun Owners Aren’t Surprised by Joe Biden’s Latest Stolen Valor Fabulism Claims

Mon, 12/19/2022 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

Joe Biden walked onstage in front of a group of veterans Friday and then stole their valor.

Biden told the veterans his Uncle Frank was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, but somehow never received the Purple Heart. Biden claimed he first learned of the oversight when he was vice president, from his father.

“So, I got him the Purple Heart. He had won it in the Battle of the Bulge.

LGBT Groups: Oregon Measure 114 Drinks Deeply From the Tainted Well of Discrimination

Mon, 12/19/2022 - 12:00

From Operation Blazing Sword-Pink Pistols . . .

It is the position of Operation Blazing Sword – Pink Pistols that the recently-passed Oregon Ballot Measure 114 imposes a burdensome “permit to purchase” scheme upon all citizens, including marginalized and at-risk groups such as queer people. Much like North Carolina’s Pistol Purchase Permit, a Jim Crow-era law which uses subjective criteria to deny black people the ability to own a handgun for protection, Measure 114 fails to clearly define what does and does not disqualify applicants.

Five Great Old TV Shows and The Guns That Made Them Famous

Sun, 12/18/2022 - 16:00

Back in the day, television was heavily censored. Even married TV couples had to sleep in separate beds (Luuucyy!). But characters could shoot at each other with reckless abandon, if the spirit moved them. And move them, it did.

There was a fair amount of gunplay in old television shows. Westerns were big, with at least one climactic gun battle each week — usually more — to keep things interesting.

Some of the more action-packed programs were based upon World War II.

What The US Mayors Who Demand More Federal Gun Control Laws Have in Common

Sun, 12/18/2022 - 10:00

Dozens of mayors from America’s biggest cities are demanding the U.S. Senate pass more gun control. “We write to urge the Senate to pass during the lame duck session gun safety legislation that has passed the House…,” the mayors’ letter states.

An answer to the crime problem plaguing these cities might not be found in Congress. Rather the mayors should look closer to home for solutions. Or better yet, take a good long look in the mirror.

Halbrook: The Second Amendment Means What it Meant in 1791…Period

Sat, 12/17/2022 - 08:00

When proposing the Fourteenth Amendment to Congress in 1866, Senator Jacob Howard referred to “the personal rights guaranteed and secured by the first eight amendments of the Constitution; such as freedom of speech and of the press; … the right to keep and bear arms….” He averred that “the great object” of the amendment was “to restrain the power of the States and compel them at all times to respect these great fundamental guarantees.” The design was not to change the nature of the rights, but to prevent the states from violating them.

Things That Don’t Suck: Faxon’s Ruger 10/22 Bolt Upgrade

Sat, 12/17/2022 - 07:00

There are many parts that make up a 10/22 rifle, and each one of them plays an important role. However, the most critical component of the Ruger is the bolt. The trigger may be what initiates every shot, but it’s the bolt that’s responsible for shot-to-shot operation.

A high-quality bolt affects more than just reliability. The bolt face, its consistency, and how the firing pin strikes the bullet significantly contribute to the rifle’s accuracy.
