The Truth About Guns

Parkland Father Calls on Gun Owners to Head to the Range to Support the 2A
There’s a growing chorus for strict gun control following the tragic murders in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, where deranged individuals took the lives of innocent Americans.
Ryan Petty isn’t among them, though some might expect him to be. Petty’s 14-year-old daughter Alaina was murdered in the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy. Instead of blaming gun owners that follow the law, he’s inviting them and others with a call-to-action of his own: Go to the range, practice and show your support for the Second Amendment.
Kate Steinle’s Killer Sentenced to Time Served in San Francisco
From the AP . . .
A California federal judge on Monday sentenced the Mexican man acquitted of murder in the 2015 shooting death of a woman on a San Francisco pier to the seven years he’s already spent in jail — bringing to a legal close the case that ignited a national firestorm over immigration, crime and sanctuary cities.
Jose Inez Garcia Zarate was in the U.S. illegally when Kate Steinle, 32, was fatally shot along a crowded Pier 14 where she was walking with her father and a family friend.
Helmet Pads from Hard Heads: Micro Lattice Pads For Your Lid
Hard Head Veterans is excited to showcase their micro lattice helmet pads – an excellent and affordable upgrade for tactical or ballistic helmets. Developed in association with Carbon, using their Digital Light Synthesis manufacturing process, the Micro Lattice assembly is a superb energy-absorbing structure.
This substantially improves the protective capabilities of a helmet by mitigating and even preventing head trauma.
The micro lattice pads average single-digit deformation numbers when tested to 1400 fps with 9mm projectiles on our ATE ballistic helmet.
Keane: The Firearm Industry Wants Serious Discussions, Not Political Theater
NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, will work with those in Congress who are dedicated to serious, sober, thoughtful and deliberate discussions to address measures to prevent these tragedies. There can be no more inappropriate moment for political theater.
The firearm industry is – and always has been – ready to work for Real Solutions that make our communities safer.
Finally, the Commonsense Gun Control Compromise We Really Need
Here is my proposed gun control compromise following the latest attack on children that millions of us did not commit. Ready? You gun fascists can kiss my Schumer and we keep our guns. In fact, let’s also repeal the National Firearms Act and impose national constitutional carry. I think this compromise fairly balances our respective legitimate interests regarding guns. Our legitimate interest is maintaining the capacity to deter and defeat tyrants and criminals. Your legitimate interest in limiting our ability to do so is non-existent.
Gun Meme of the Day: Lower Receiver Pride Edition
Trying to ban AR-15s is now officially homophobic. Any time somebody suggests restricting or banning them I’m now replying with shock and disgust and accusing that person of being a racist and a homophobe. Also transphobic if I can’t transition my AR to different calibers by swapping tops on the same bottom.

How Old Are Americans When They Get Their First Gun?
By David Yamane
As the age at which American adults ought to be able to buy firearms is being discussed in the wake of Buffalo and Uvalde, I want to point to some data on the age at which Americans actually get their first guns.
TL:DR version . . .
(1) For respondents who say they currently or have ever owned a gun, the average age is 22.
(2) Men acquire their first gun at age 19 and women at age 27, on average.

NY Governor: The New Gun Control Laws I Signed Are Just the Beginning
Seizing on the opportunity to ram new limits on Second Amendment rights into law — much the same as her predecessor did — New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed 10 new bills into law today. From Reuters . . .
The legislation, passed on Thursday by the state legislature, raises the age required to buy or possess a semiautomatic rifle from 18 to 21. New York already requires people to be 21 to possess a handgun.
The Reality of ‘Assault Weapons’ is Far Too Boring and Inconvenient for the Media
By Rob Morse
We’re hearing a lot of claims and counter-claims about modern sporting rifles right now. While these “modern” guns are more than half a century old, honest gun owners still buy and use them every day. Occasionally, criminals use them as well, but that’s rare. About one-out-of-eight gun owners have a modern sporting rifle today. And as we’d expect, rifles are used in armed defense situations about an eighth of the time.
Biden Uses Lies to Smear Anyone Who Opposes His Anti-Gun Agenda as Complicit in the Deaths of Children
[Biden] does not want to talk about the details of [the 1994 assault weapons ban], which would reveal that the category of firearms it targets is defined by functionally unimportant features such as folding stocks, pistol grips, and barrel shrouds. He does not want to address the basic problem with such laws: They leave untouched guns that fire the same ammunition at the same rate with the same muzzle velocity as the prohibited models.
Expanded Backgrund Checks Will Lead to Registration and Ultimately Confiscation
By Alan Gottlieb
In the wake of horrible shooting incidents in Buffalo, New York, Uvalde, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma, the gun prohibition lobby and their friends on Capitol Hill have resorted to the same rhetoric and brought out the same agenda they’ve been promoting for a long time.
Chief among items on the gun control wish list are “expanded background checks.” But the killers in Uvalde, Buffalo, and Tulsa all passed background checks for their guns.
There’s A Lot Biden Can Do Right Now About Gun Crimes, But He Doesn’t Want To
Right now, when the federal government finds out that a sale that should have been stopped has proceeded because of the time limit, it does — this part will not surprise you! — absolutely nothing. Somewhere in some subbasement somewhere in the bowels of Washington, some bureaucrat mutters to himself, “Well, that’s unfortunate.” And then nothing else happens.
These are sales for which people have filed the requisite paperwork at a licensed firearms dealer.
Good Guys With Guns: Defensive Gun Uses Soar in Chicago
Don’t look now, but Chicago is looking like it might be the defensive gun use DGU capital of the US. There have been at least forty-six Chicagoans who have used a gun since January 2021 to protect themselves. To put that number in perspective, HeyJackass pegs the number of officer-involved shootings as 30 in the same time period.
Keep in mind these are just the incidents I could find that made the news.

Does Ukraine Value Gun Rights Enough to Remain Free if They Defeat the Russian Invasion?
By Cody Wisniewski
Nearly three months in, it’s tough to judge the overall state of Ukraine’s war with Russia. But there’s widespread agreement (and amazement), that Ukraine has defeated Russia’s initial effort to take Kyiv and topple the Ukrainian government. Much of Ukraine’s success in this regard has come from ordinary citizens bearing arms in defense of their country.
This is almost certainly the gun rights story of the year and possibly the decade—showing the world that the natural right of self-defense is an integral part of individual liberty and an essential check on tyranny.
Just Call 911: Escaped Convicted Contract Killer Murdered 5 Before Being Shot By Police
By Juan A. Lozano and Adrian Sainz, AP
Residents of Centerville had become more vigilant over the past three weeks as authorities searched for a murderer who had killed on behalf of Mexican drug cartels and who stabbed and injured the driver of a prison transport bus last month when he escaped custody not far from their small Texas town.
The search for Gonzalo Lopez, 46, ended late Thursday in a shootout about 220 miles (350 kilometers) away.

Gun Review: Lionheart Industries REGULUS Alpha Blackout 9mm
The REGULUS Alpha Blackout represents the latest generation of pistols from Lionheart Industries. The pistol’s design began life as the Daewoo DP-51 which, for a time, was imported to the US as the Lionheart LH9. Lionheart Industries made a series of improvements, modernizations, and enhancements and began producing guns entirely in the United States with the REGULUS Alpha and Beta models.
Those pistols, though, were absolutely beautiful. As an importer became a manufacturer, the cost was high and many found the price tag a bit steep to try a relatively unknown, boutique-grade pistol.
Common Use: Biden’s Bans Would Take Guns From 25 Million People, Magazines From 40 Million
By David Yamane
How many Americans own “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines”? The short answer is: no one really knows. And given increasing calls to ban them, including by President Joe Biden in his address to the nation last night, that’s probably for the best.
But knowing that ownership of AR-15 style rifles and magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition is widespread can also be an advantage to the cause of gun rights.
