By Paul J. Weber, AP

The Justice Department announced Wednesday a tentative $144 million settlement with families and victims of a 2017 mass shooting at a Texas church that was carried out by a former U.S. airman who was able to purchase firearms despite a criminal history.

I Can Open Carry In My State…But Should I?

Wed, 04/05/2023 - 12:00

You live in an open carry state. You can carry a gun — handgun or long gun — openly just about anywhere you want. Okay, but should you?

Some of you are probably thinking “Not this crap again,” because this is an oft-visited trope for folks who carry a gun. If that’s you, then you might want to skip this one or – alternately – go vent your spleen in the comments. Go ahead, bring the pain, you won’t hurt my feelings.

Jones: I Can’t Find the Passage in the Bible Allowing People to Run Amuck With Guns

Wed, 04/05/2023 - 08:00

The Bible is a lynchpin of the pro-gun movement. In every corner of our country, purportedly Christian leaders lean into the narrative that bearing arms is a God-given right – one that should not be restricted in any way. So, as our nation reels from yet another mass shooting — this time, a gunman killed three children and three adults at an elementary school in Nashville — far-right Christian leaders continue to loudly and proudly lead the charge to funnel more guns into our communities.

Tennessee House Moves to Expel 3 Members Who Led Anti-Gun Protest in the Chamber

Tue, 04/04/2023 - 15:00

If the standard for getting rid of an elected representative is “knowingly and intentionally bring(ing) disorder and dishonor to the” body to which they’ve been elected, America should soon be losing about 93.8% of those who currently hold office. But seriously, folks, that’s the charge being leveled against three Tennessee Democrats who used a bullhorn to lead anti-gun protesters in the House gallery in chants of “FASCISTS” and other bons mots last week after the New Covenant School shooting.

March Was the 44th Consecutive Month With More Than 1 Million Firearms Sold

Tue, 04/04/2023 - 12:00

There are a lot of new normals in this post-pandemic, post-George Floyd world. And with a President who preaches almost daily about his desire for not only an “assault weapons” V2.0, but confiscating all semi-automatics, the general public has gotten the message and is acting accordingly. To wit: they’re buying guns. Lots of them. Every month.

As the NSSF’s Mark Oliva tells us . . .

March’s NSSF Adjusted NICS figure of 1,556,492 marks 44 consecutive months when background checks have exceeded 1 million.

WaPo: No One Needs an Iconic Rifle That 1 out of 20 Americans Currently Own

Tue, 04/04/2023 - 10:00

Last Wednesday, The Washington Post published an editorial entitled, “No one needs an AR-15 — or any gun tailor-made for mass shootings.” That piece followed an earlier series of articles about the AR-15 under the heading, “AMERICAN ICON: The gun that divides a nation.” Both efforts were meant to echo and amplify Joe Biden’s call to ban semiautomatic long guns and “large capacity” magazines. The articles were, however, ironically self-refuting and established beyond any doubt that AR-15s are in fact shielded by the Second Amendment.

Manhattan DA Backs Down Again, Drops Attempted Murder Charge Against Wounded Robbery Victim

Mon, 04/03/2023 - 07:55

Did you take the under in the line we set yesterday as to how many days it would take Manhattan’s “progressive” prosecutor to do a 180 and drop attempted murder charges against a wounded parking lot attendant? Congrats if you did, because the Soros-backed District Attorney surprised even us with how quickly he realized that he’d created another public relations nightmare for himself and moved to rectify it.

After being shot twice by a man trying to rob him Saturday, Moussa Diarra managed to wrestle the gun away and shoot his attacker.

Sun, 04/02/2023 - 08:00

The rash of calls follows similar trends in other parts of the country that began this week.

“I want to say how sad I am that there are individuals in this world that would report a hoax like this on our high school students, the staff, our police officers, our fire officers — how sad I am that our country has gotten to this point where this kind of thing is OK,” said Ogden chief administrative officer Mark Johnson, as he addressed one of the calls made to Ogden High School.

Cowboy Action Shooting Tip: Checklists Have Made Me a Better Shooter

Sat, 04/01/2023 - 10:00

By Thundervoice

I started cowboy action shooting about six years ago. A year into it, I wrote this piece on my first year. In the five years since, I’ve managed to improve significantly. I’m still chasing after the elite competitors, but I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve been described as a good shooter. Nonetheless, I continue to learn from others and from my mistakes.

For those who don’t want to go back and read that earlier piece, cowboy action shooting is a 4-gun competition: a shotgun, a rifle, and two pistols.

This is the Civilian Disarmament Industry’s Worst Nightmare

Sat, 04/01/2023 - 08:00

I was a big gun control supporter and believed only two types of people owned firearms, cops and criminals. I was raised that way and that was my exposure to gun culture. I had a propagandist view of the second amendment growing up in a leftist anti-gun circle.

My views changed after a home invasion. I started doing research into what would be the best firearm for home defense to better protect myself.

Fri, 03/31/2023 - 17:00

A casual day shopping at the mall can go south quickly when thugs try to stage a holdup by flashing a “large butcher knife.” Lots of mall cops aren’t equipped to handle a threat like that. Fortunately, one of the shoppers at Las Vegas’s Fashion Show Mall, located in the heart of the Strip, was carrying a firearm.

According to 8newsnow.com . . .

Security officers found the man, later identified as [Letrelle] Calhoun, “flashing a knife” in another area of the mall and detained him while Metro officers arrived, documents said.
