Turkey Hunting Tips: Match Your Calls and Decoys to the Season

Sun, 04/09/2023 - 16:00

With names like “The Call Girl” and “The Thief” you would think we were talking about titles for a steamy Lifetime movie instead of essentials for turkey season. The season of the thunder chicken is upon us. We’ve spent months preparing ourselves to trick old Tom into thinking we are a Dirty Lil’ Hen. Here are some of the top-rated turkey hunting products and some of my personal picks.

Early Season

Early season gobblers are full of testosterone and looking for fights before they are looking for love.

Texas Governor Begins Pardon Process for Army Sergeant Convicted of Murder in BLM Protest Shooting

Sun, 04/09/2023 - 09:55

Army Sgt. Daniel Perry was driving for Uber in downtown Austin, Texas on Saturday, July 25th, 2020. That night, a black lives matter protest marched down Congress Avenue. As Perry’s car attempted to turn onto Congress from Fourth Street, the car was surrounded by marchers. One of those protesters was Garrett Foster who was carrying a slung AK-47 rifle.

As the crowd surrounded Perry’s car, Foster raised his rifle. That’s when Perry shot and killed him.

America’s Worst School Massacre That No One Wants to Talk About

Sun, 04/09/2023 - 08:00

Few today even remember the Bath School Massacre, and it is rarely – if ever – even mentioned by the media alongside those other mass killings. The reason is that it sadly doesn’t fit the modern narrative.

While it left forty-four people dead, including thirty-eight children, no one could blame video games, and suggesting movies had an influence would be a stretch as this day of infamy took place on May 18, 1927.

Good News: The IRS Promises it Won’t Use Any of the $80 Billion in New Funds it’s Getting for More Armed Agents

Sat, 04/08/2023 - 16:00

As is the custom, Congress and the Biden administration used the passage of the hilariously-named Inflation Reduction Act to tack on all kinds of additional pork totaling about $740 billion in newly printed dollars. That’s the bill that West Virginia’s credulous Senator Joe Manchin rolled over for, buying Chuck Schumer’s and Biden’s all-too-predictably bogus promises of future consideration to “support and expand fossil energy” to sign on. Manchin’s rube-like credulousness is still a source of amazement.

Florida Sheriff Horrifies the Media By Telling the Truth About Guns

Sat, 04/08/2023 - 13:00

From the CCRKBA

Marion County, Florida Sheriff Billy Woods was “absolutely right” Friday when he told reporters during a press conference about the arrests of two suspects in a triple slaying that the gun is not responsible, the people using it are, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“It’s deplorable that NBC News chose to describe Sheriff Woods’ remarks as a ‘wild rant’ against gun control when he responded to a question from a reporter,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

‘After the Bell Rings,’ a Safety and Situational Awareness Guide for Kids

Sat, 04/08/2023 - 10:00

By John Petrolino

Instructor and advocate Bill Dalpe did not intend to go down the road he did initially. Dalpe wanted to bring a social awareness program to a local school, and after getting stonewalled by an administrator, he realized he needed to take matters into his own hands. The educator, with decades of experience, found himself authoring his own book on personal safety and responsibility for young teens, After The Bell Rings.

Sheriff: The Media Blame the Guns, Not the Two Juveniles Who Committed a Triple Murder

Sat, 04/08/2023 - 08:09

I know each of you in the media here and viewers out there probably heard us in law enforcement or even in community events talk about what is the problem. And I’m going to go ahead and address the first thing that I know is going to come up. Because there are individuals out there viewing and include some of you media that want to blame the one thing that has no ability or the capacity to commit the crime itself.

Ruling on ‘Red Flag’ Gun Confiscations Shows Civil Rights Still Matter, Even in New York

Fri, 04/07/2023 - 16:00

A New York court has affirmed that due process rights must be taken into consideration when enforcing so-called “red flag” laws and vacated New York’s Gov. Kathy Hochul’s executive order for enforcing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) or “red flag” orders. That is consistent with what NSSF has said from the beginning about ERPOs.

If an individual is going to be deprived of fundamental constitutional rights, they must be afforded the opportunity to examine and challenge evidence brought against them – they must be afforded due process of law.

Fri, 04/07/2023 - 14:00

By Lt. R. Michalik

Don’t underestimate the value of a bad ammunition magazine. If you’ve been around guns for any amount of time, you’ve almost certainly run into them. Whether you purchased a questionable no-name mag at a gun show or one came with your or your buddy’s gun, we have have experienced a magazine or two. It doesn’t matter if you own quality guns like a SIG SAUER, Smith & Wesson, GLOCK, FN, Ruger…whatever.

Social Contagion: Colorado Springs Police Arrest Trans Man Who Threatened Another School Shooting

Fri, 04/07/2023 - 10:00

There’s a school of thought that the more publicity that’s given to spree shooters, the more spree shootings we get. By publicizing what sick, twisted individuals do, other similarly disturbed people are incented to do the same and achieve thier own perverse celebrity.

That’s certainly going to be one of the theories for what apparently almost happened in Colorado Springs where police say they stopped a 19-year-old man who claims he’s female from shooting up a school there.

Biden DOJ Files Last Minute Supreme Court Appeal of 5th Circuit Bump Stock Ruling

From Michael Cargill . . .

On Thursday at 10:30 pm 04-06-2023, with only minutes to spare, the DOJ filed a petition for a writ of certiorari. The DOJ is also asking for a stay against the Circuit Court’s ruling until the United States Supreme Court can decide whether to grant certiorari. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals en banc ruled 13-3 in favor of Cargill. The court remanded the case back to the District Court to rule in favor of Cargill and issue appropriate relief on 01-06-2023.

An Inconvenient Truth: More Guns Does Not Equal More Deaths

Fri, 04/07/2023 - 08:00

“There has never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry,” said Massie. “More guns lead to more deaths,” countered Bowman, “more guns lead to more deaths!”

It’s understandable that tempers flare and voices rise in the aftermath of such horrific events. When faced with such situations, the urge to do something—to do anything—is nearly impossible to resist.

But is Rep.

Tennessee Legislature Votes to Expel Two of Three Members Who Led Gun Control Rally From the House Floor

Thu, 04/06/2023 - 19:19

The Tennessee House has voted to expel now former Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson. The motion to expel Rep. Gloria Johnson failed by one vote.

The three Democrats led an anti-gun demonstration with a bullhorn from the well of the House last week following the shooting at the New Covenant School in Nashville.

As the AP reports . . .

The banishment of Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson was a move the chamber has used only a handful times since the Civil War.

Gear Review: Meopta MeoSport R 3-15×50 RD SFP Rifle Scope

Thu, 04/06/2023 - 16:00

Meopta began in 1933 as a Czechoslovakian-based company that, since 1960, manufactures its products in the US as well. Producing everything from precision medical and scientific instrumentation to military weapon systems, and even digital cinematic projectors, Meopta’s diversification is impressive. Of interest to me are their optical products for shooting and hunting, including riflescopes, binoculars, and spotting scopes.

The ‘RD’ in the Meopta MeoSport R 3-15×50 RD SFP name indicates its illuminated red dot on its simple 4C reticle and ‘SFP’ is, of course second focal plane.

DOJ’s Sutherland Springs Settlement is Another Example of Joe Biden’s Gun Control Failures

Thu, 04/06/2023 - 14:00

From the CCRKBA . . .

Wednesday’s announcement by the Biden Justice Department that it has “reached a $144 million agreement in principle” to settle civil lawsuits stemming from the 2017 mass shooting at a Texas church is one more black mark in Joe Biden’s long record of failed gun control policies, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

The killer, Devin Patrick Kelley, pleaded guilty to domestic violence and was subsequently dismissed from the U.S.

South Texas Spring Hunting: Chasing the Rio Grande Turkey

Thu, 04/06/2023 - 12:00

I recently found myself en route from my home state of Alabama to the Chaparrosa Ranch in La Pryor Texas. What was worth the 800+ mile trip? The chance to bag a Rio Grande turkey. I’ve killed plenty of eastern toms, but as an avid bird hunter, this was a hunt I’d dreamed of for years. I’d logged lots of YouTube time, seeing the birds others had bagged and knew this was one I had to get under my belt.
