Alabama: NRA fights for guns-in-cars
Should you die because you don’t have a concealed carry permit? Of course not, which is why the NRA is doing this:
NRA to push for legislation allowing guns in cars without a permitMONTGOMERY, Alabama — A lobbyist for the National Rifle Association said the gun lobby expects to support legislation in Alabama next year allowing people to carry a loaded handgun in their car without a permit.
NRA lobbyist Michael Sullivan told Al.com that he expects such legislation when the Legislature returns next year.
A similar proposal from state Sen. Scott Beason failed this year. Beason ran unsuccessfully for Congress, so he will not be returning to his Statehouse seat. The Alabama Sheriffs Association opposed the proposal.
Sullivan said he expects other state lawmakers to continue the effort.
He said none of the states bordering Alabama require a permit to carry a pistol in a motor vehicle.

Nevadans for Background Checks begin gathering signatures
Want to go through a background check if you buy a gun from a relative or a friend? I sure don’t:
CARSON CITY, Nevada — Supporters of an initiative petition to expand background checks to nearly all gun sales in Nevada will soon begin gathering signatures after claiming a court victory.
Carson District Judge James Wilson on Friday struck down most of the arguments of the Nevada Firearms Coalition over the wording of the petition. The group opposes the petition.
Wilson ordered a minor wording change noting there would be criminal penalties for failure to obey the proposed new law, but rejected other wording changes sought by the firearms coalition.
The judge said the petition must mention that first-time offenders would face a gross misdemeanor and repeat offenders would face a felony.
Attorney Rue Goodenow, who represents the petition opponents, acknowledged at the start of the hearing the challenge was aimed only at the description of the petition’s effect, not the petition itself.
Supporters say the proposal, spurred by Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval’s veto of similar legislation passed by the 2013 Legislature, would require background checks for private gun sales.
They say the proposal is...
Alabama might ban open carry in polling places
Being anti-gun in Alabama is like being a roach in a chicken dance, deadly. So I’m surprised at this reaction.

Unarmed CEO’s are Dead CEO’s
Let this be a lesson to all anti-gun and unarmed CEO’s, your views could be detrimental to your health:
Disgruntled Chicago worker shoots CEO, kills self
CHICAGO — A demoted worker shot and critically wounded his company’s CEO before fatally shooting himself Thursday inside a downtown high-rise office building in Chicago’s bustling financial district, police said.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said a worker at a technological company pulled a gun after entering the 17th-floor office to meet one-on-one with his CEO. There was a struggle for the gun, and the CEO was shot twice before the gunman fatally shot himself, McCarthy said.
McCarthy said the company was downsizing and “a number of people,” including the alleged shooter, were being demoted.
“Apparently he was despondent over the fact that he got demoted,” McCarthy said.
The 54-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head and stomach, McCarthy said. The 59-year-old alleged gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. Their names and the name of the company haven’t been released.

Fists too often part of domestic violence
Valerie Wynn is a woman with almost 20 years of experience working with victims of domestic violence has decided to come out against guns, surprise, surprise:
….
I also am a survivor of an abusive relationship that almost turned lethal. On the day I told my abuser I did not want to see him any longer, he tried to kill me. I know that the reason he wasn’t successful in ending my life that day was because there were no weapons in my apartment at the time of the assault. If he had been able to access a gun, I am certain I wouldn’t be here to write this.
