Wasting Time Watching USPSA Nationals Videos
I need to work on my reloads, I’m not nearly this fast:
Also, look how KC and Chris Tilley (2nd and last shooters) shoot the second array of targets on the move here:
The other shooters take the targets on the move too, but KC and Chris barely even slow down while moving toward the next array.

What Has The Anti-Gun Crowd Done for The Community?
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a sign on the side of the road proclaiming that it had been adopted by the Misguided Moms…
On a more serious note though, I think it’s great to see MMAGC getting out there, and showing the community that good moms not only want to protect their families, but that they are active in the community as well.

An NC Parallel to the Shaneen Allen Case
Recently, a commenter posted on the NCGunOwners.com (NCGO) web forum about a possible pending felony charge in NJ and how it would effect his ability to purchase a firearm here in NC. He’s an NC CHP holder who was pulled over for a traffic violation in NJ, and he informed the police officer of his concealed handgun during the traffic stop, at which point he was arrested. After answering his original question, I couldn’t help but re-read some of the things he posted and make some comparisons to the Shaneen Allen case.
...I Saw The Sights Lift
Way back when I first started competitive shooting, I purchased Brian Eno’s book, and attempted to read it. The whole zen thing was lost on me, and I lost interest in the book before the halfway mark. I’m not sure what happened to the book, but I think I may be to the point where I should actually sit down and read it cover to cover a time or two.
...Someone Stole Daniel Horners Guns From the Mail
Taran Tactical Innovations posted the following embedded post on Facebook tonight:
...HK VP9 vs. Walther PPQ
For Episode 100 we decided to do something a little special: We put an HK VP9 against a Walther PPQ and took them to the range to shoot side by side with Bob who’s been on the podcast in Episodes 30 and 54. We shot about 300 rounds between the two pistols, rotating shooters, and doing our best to find out where the weak points are on both of them. The two pistols are surprisingly similar, both being polymer 9mm service pistols close in size to the Glock 19. Both the VP9 and PPQ hold 15 rounds on 9mm in the magazine, and aesthetically they look very close.
...I Needed Some Motivation to Practice More
Last week in Episode 99 of the podcast, Ben and I talked about how sometimes buying some new gear can give you extra motivation to practice, which will in turn make you a better shooter.
...The Perfect Deer Rifle? Ruger American Ranch
Last week Ruger announced a couple of new rifles in their American Rifle lineup. The new rifles are called the American Rifle Ranch series, and they are available in .223/5.56 and .300 Blackout.
...Practicing Without Eyes and Ears
Recently I came across a Facebook post that advocated practicing shooting without wearing eyes and ears because when the balloon goes up you won’t have time to put them on, so you need to practice without them.
...Would You Buy a Painted Gun?
I recently had the opportunity to purchase a pistol that had been painted (ceracoat), but I wasn’t able to close the deal.
To me, removing the factory finish on the pistol, and applying something else is always inferior to the factory finish.
Would you purchase a pistol that had been painted after it left the factory?

How Cut Rifling is Done
I’ve always wondered about the cut rifling process, and finally came across this video illustrating how its done.
Simple, yet complex. Very cool.

The Lawsuit Against the Websites That Sold to The Aurora Shooter: A Review
Yesterday, two parents of a victim of the Aurora, Colorado shooting, represented by lawyers from the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence filed suit against a number of online retailers including Lucky Gunner and Sportsmans Guide alleging that they should have known that the Aurora shooter (who will remain nameless) was dangerous and mentally unstable and refused to sell him thousands of rounds of ammo, various magazines, body armor, and tear gas.
...Gun Talk Listeners Sponsor Shaneen Allen Billboards in NJ
Tom Gresham has been working with his Gun Talk Radio show listeners about the Shaneen Allen case (Pennsylvania mother arrested for carrying a concealed handgun in NJ who is facing more than a decade in prison for doing nothing more than crossing a state line with her gun) to raise money and put up billboards in NJ to raise awareness about the case.
Just about an hour ago the above photo was posted on the Gun Talk Facebook page.
I think its a cool way to raise awareness. If you want to help support the effort, SAF is handling the money, just make a donation and put “NJ Billboard Project” in the comment section.

GRNC Looking Into the Questionable Posting of the NC State Fairgrounds
Last fall, I wrote a post about the NC State Fairgrounds being posted against carry with “No Weapons” signs during the NC State Fair. I went through all of the relevant statutes that I could find about concealed carry, and I wasn’t able to find the legal justification for the state to post the signs that they did.
...Buying Gear Can Help Your Skills – 99
We spend a lot of time on the blog and podcast talking about how it’s much superior to learn skills to actually get better at something (shooting mostly) than buying new tools that don’t actually make you better. After talking with Ben a bit this week though, we realized that sometimes buying something new can help to make you better, because having the cool new thing gives you more motivation to practice.
...H2O Fowl Farms IDPA September 2014 Match Report
On Saturday I shot the H2O Fowl Farms September IDPA match. I added most of my comments in the video as a voice-over, so have a watch:
I made some very amateur mistakes that I need to work on going forward. I’ve already ditched the extended slide stop (which I knew would create a problem when I purchased the pistol, I just never bothered to swap it out), and hopefully I won’t have to deal with the slide not locking back again.

[POLL] Where Do You Stand on the “Respectful Request” Not to Carry in a Business?
It seems that the 2A community is divided on the issue of whether or not to still shop at, and do business with businesses who have issues these “respectful requests” not to carry guns in their stores.
...Production Legal Glock Gen4 Extended Magazine Release
A few months back I picked up a Gen4 Glock 34 to use as my main competition pistol. After countless hours of dry fire, and a bunch of matches with the pistol I’ve come to the conclusion that I want some sort of extended magazine release for the pistol.
...The Twenty-First Century Scout Rifle
So because Ruger did a stupid (making the Scout rifle in 5.56 which will sell like hotcakes despite not fitting the original criteria) and Col. Cooper failed to anticipate the invention, thirty years ago, of the Aimpoint T-1, the scout rifle is dead?
Nah, I think it’s more alive than it ever was. Just update the specs a little to include red dots.
The point of the scout rifle spec was to dream and encourage innovation, not carve in stone The Perfect Weapon. Let’s take that spirit forward instead of getting stuck on the vision of the perfect gun from before the Glock 17 was invented.
How about a .300BLK scout rifle fed out of STANAG mags with an Aimpoint and a Surefire quick-detach suppressor mount so you can slap a can on if you want for a particular shot? Cooper couldn’t have dreamed of that, but I easily can.
