Breaking: USPSA Website Hacked

Wed, 11/26/2014 - 13:51

I just heard about this on Doodie Project, and it’s been making the rounds on the competition shooting circles today.

Basically, the way I understand it, is that USPSA was not storing account names and passwords in a encrypted format, so when their website was hacked the hackers were able to access email addresses and account passwords for USPSA website accounts.

If you use unique passwords for every different website this probably isn’t a  big deal, but if you use the same email address and password from your USPSA account as any other website out there, go change your password immediately.

Rumor is that the hackers have already tried the username/password combinations on PayPal and other financial based sites.

Carry Guns vs. Match Guns – 109

Sun, 11/23/2014 - 23:29

The main topic for this episode comes from a voicemail from a listener (who didn’t leave his name) about whether or not it’s okay to shoot competition with a pistol that isn’t your carry gun. Ben and I both carry different guns than we generally shoot in competition, but there is a bit of philosophy there which we go into in this episode.

Protect Yourself from Holiday Shopping Scams

Sat, 11/22/2014 - 08:57

The holiday season brings out all kinds of scams and scammers. Many of these types of folks only want to separate you from your money, and others want to hurt you or the ones you love. Here’s a few of the common scams I’ve come across over the years that you need to be aware of:

The XD Mod.2 is Surprisingly Good Looking… Without all the Text

Thu, 11/20/2014 - 05:20

Ben and I have been discussing the XD Mod.2 on and off since it’s announcement from Springfield Armory last week. The common theme that we’ve discussed is that all of the changes that Sprinfield made to the pistol appear to be positive, with exception to all the text printed all over it, especially the GRIP ZONE text on the grip. There’s a long running joke in the gun community about all the text that Ruger puts on their pistols, but if there were a contest about who can put the most on a single handgun, I think Springfield Armory wins this round.

Is Ruger Embracing Smart Guns?

Wed, 11/19/2014 - 23:47

From this news piece, it seems that may be the case, or maybe not. It could be that the folks at Ruger smiled and nodded when approached by these folks, without having any intention of acting on the information, or it could be just as insidious as it sounds. I need a whole lot more than just one sentence from a NY news station before I can pass judgement.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one…

I Like Where Taurus is Going with the Curve Pistol

Wed, 11/19/2014 - 06:56

Yesterday the internet went crazy over the Taurus Curve pistol, mostly with bloggers bashing it. A lot of the criticism was warranted, but the Curve has some things going for it.

Class Review and Texas Open Carry – 108

Mon, 11/17/2014 - 00:35

Full shownotes are forthcoming. Basic rundown of this episode is this: We recap the Gun Powder Gals IDPA clinic that we helped with on Saturday, we look at a couple of bills that have been introduced in Texas that would allow for open carry, and constitutional carry, Ben reviews the Steve Anderson class, and we go through some listener feedback.

You can order your Triangle Tactical shirts until about 10PM on Monday 11/17/2014, so you officially have less than 24 hours. Go get one or three!

Check back to this post as the day goes on, I’ll be updating it throughout the day.

USPSA Grand Master Steve Anderson – 107

Mon, 11/10/2014 - 17:53

Ben is taking a 2 day handgun class with Steve Anderson from That Shooting Show and he had a chance to sit down with him and record an episode. They talk quite a bit about USPSA, and the mental game. If you aren’t familiar with Steve, he’s known in the competitive shooting world as the dry fire guy. He’s written a few books on the subject, and now he hosts a podcast (along with his dogs and David Lee Roth) where he talks more about the practical shooting mental game, dry fire, and match management.

“Where’s the improvement gonna come from if you don’t strap on the gear and get to work?”

You can find Steve at AndersonShooting.com with links to purchase his books, sign up for classes, and subscribe to his podcast.

Ep.107 with Steve Anderson will release Monday Evening

Sun, 11/09/2014 - 23:18

Ben had the opportunity to sit down with Steve Anderson (yes, that Steve Anderson) earlier today and recorded Episode 107 with him. I was hoping to get the file and have it ready to go for the normal Sunday night episode release, but alas the interwebs aren’t cooperating. Stay tuned though, I’m sure it’ll be a good episode!

In the mean time, you have 7 days left to get your Triangle Tactical shirts…

Cover Six Tactical out of Clayton, NC is Good to Go

Fri, 11/07/2014 - 14:47

A few nights ago I was cruising my internet sources checking the price of bullets, powder, and primers online. I came across a link to an online store called Cover Six Tactical. Turns out they are just down the way from me in Clayton, NC and they had more pistol powder listed in stock on their website than I’ve seen since I started reloading earlier this year.

Larry Vickers Revives the RTF2 Glock Frame

Thu, 11/06/2014 - 15:23

This morning on Facebook, Larry Vickers announced that he, in partnership with Lipsey’s (an wholesale distributor) is coming out with a signature line of Glock pistols. The Glocks are FDE colored Gen3 frames that have the old RTF2 texture that I think everyone loved. They will also come with a bunch of Vickers Tactical branded stuff (Vickers sights, mag release, slide stop, and baseplates). The pistols also feature “LAV” in the serial numbers for the die hard Vickers fans.

At first glance, I thought these were Gen4 frames with the RTF2 texture, but they are just the regular old Gen3 RTF2 Glocks. They haven’t been available for a while though, so if you’ve had a hankering for an RTF2 Glock, now is the time. I’m going to stick with my Gen4 guns though.

IDPA Dumps Flat Footed Reload Rule – 106

Tue, 11/04/2014 - 00:11

Early this evening IDPA sent an email to it’s membership that has caused a bit of a stir on social media. The biggest piece of news is that they are getting rid of the “flat footed reload” rule that has caused so much stir around the game since it was introduced last year that you can hardly mention IDPA without having someone mention the rule.

I Should Compete With My AR-15 More

It’s Not the Gun, It’s the Shooter

Wed, 10/29/2014 - 23:08

When talking to people who are getting interested in competitive shooting, a common thing I hear it’s that they need to go buy a new gun first. In a vast majority of cases though, they currently have a gun and gear that’s more than good enough to get started.

New CCW Guns – 105

Mon, 10/27/2014 - 00:41

I’ve mentioned a bit on the blog and Facebook page over the past couple of days that I picked up a Glock 19 Gen4 to act as my primary CCW pistol for a while. I’ve been wanting to go back to a doublestack gun with decent capacity, and finally made the plunge for a whole host of reasons that I go through in this episode. What I haven’t mentioned is that Ben inherited my XDs 9mm to act as his new summer carry gun. He fell in love with it after we did the “Pocket 9mm Shootout” back in Episode 68, and has been kicking around the idea of buying it since then. We spend a bit of time in the episode going through our reasons for making the switch.

Buying Glocks is Fun

Thu, 10/23/2014 - 19:51

At the gun store:

“Hey, y’all have any Gen4 Glock 19s in stock?”

“Yeah”

“Cool, give me the paperwork.”

“Uhhh, don’t you want to see it?”

“Nah, it’s a Glock.”

“…I love customers like you.”
