Ben’s Bizarro Broadcast – 114

Tue, 12/30/2014 - 00:00

We didn’t have much to say for our last show of 2014, so Ben did something completely different, and it’s completely awesome.

Frontline Defense Ranging Contest

Paul at Frontline Defense USA is running a ranging contest over at Carolina Shooters Club asking folks to judge the distance a 10″ steel plate is placed from the shooter.

“Without the distraction of live fire”

Mon, 12/29/2014 - 19:50

A few weeks ago, I spent an hour with Sean Sorrentino, walking him through three basic dry fire drills to help him hone what seemed to me to be the three basic skills of IDPA: drawing (from concealment), reloading (from concealment), and shooting around cover. He just shot his first match since starting to practice with them, and posted a quite positive progress report. I don’t want to overemphasize the results of a single match, but I was also impressed that he reported subjectively,

How To Shoot Professionally

Mon, 12/29/2014 - 14:51

One of the more popular search terms that brings people to Triangle Tactical is “How to shoot professionally” or some variation of that phrase. A lot of people seem to have an idea that it’s fairly easy to become a professional (i.e. paid a salary by a company in the industry because you’re an awesome shooter/spokesman) but that isn’t really the case.

Stepping Up Your CCW Rig in Wake of Terrorist Threats?

Mon, 12/29/2014 - 06:42

Am I the only person that has went back to a doublestack “wonder 9″ for CCW after hearing about the recent al qaeda ISIS threats to behead people in the streets, and the Sydney siege incident where people were held hostage in a cafe until it was stormed by police?

There’s something much more comforting about having 16 rounds on my hip, with 15 more in a reload than there is with my previous 8 rounds in the pistol and a 9 round reload.

I stepped up to a Glock 19 (second time I’ve had one for carry) and sold the XDs. So far, no complaints.

So, whaddabout you? Comfortable with what you’ve been carrying, or are you thinking about upping your capacity? Maybe carrying an extra reload?

Question of the Day: Knife + Flashlight or Gun?

Sat, 12/27/2014 - 21:19

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times that if I had to choose between carrying my knife and flashlight every day or my gun, I’d choose the knife and flashlight every time.

I use my knife and flashlight every single day, and thankfully I’ve never had to use my gun.

What say you? If you had to choose, which would it be?

They’re Winning? Or Are We Winning?

Fri, 12/26/2014 - 18:43

Found this on the Million Moms Against Gun Control Facebook page tonight:

So, if Shannon is blocked from tweeting the NRA, but she also blocks pro-gun folks that disagree with her, where does that put us? Surely by her own logic, they can’t be winning…

New Years Resolutions:

Fri, 12/26/2014 - 18:36

Last year I made one new years resolution, and I borked it right out of the gate. (I resolved to see 199 on the scale at some point during 2014, but as I’m writing this on December 26th, I still weigh the same 233 pounds as I did when I made the resolution.)

OPSEC: Cut Up Your Boxes

Thu, 12/25/2014 - 23:39

Yesterday was Christmas, and I’m sure many of you have boxes from gifts and all sorts of other trash generated from the big day that you want to get out of the house. I get that, but I beg you to take a couple minutes with a utility knife and cut the boxes up into small enough pieces that you can get them out of sight.

As I was walking the dog tonight I saw a neighbor already has the box from his new 60″ TV sitting out by the road where it’ll remain until trash day next Tuesday I’m sure.

As it sits there, it’s just a giant billboard letting every person who drives by with bad intentions that there’s a big, new, expensive item I side that they can come and take whenever they please.

Don’t out out billboards for crooks, cut up your boxes.

Glock 40 = Optics Ready Long Slide 10mm?

Wed, 12/24/2014 - 22:51

According to Weddles Gun Shop on Facebook, that could be the case. We don’t have much to go on here, but this seems to be the first report on what may be coming at SHOT show next month from Glock.

Are Shows Like ‘The Walking Dead’ Pro 2A?

Wed, 12/24/2014 - 11:28

Interesting thoughts from the folks at PJ Media. Are the anti-gun folks in Hollywood aware that they’re promoting our cause with shows like The Walking Dead where good guys use guns to save themselves?

A Man With Experience…

Mon, 12/22/2014 - 09:09

“A man with experience is not at the mercy of a man with an opinion.”

Dave Ramsey said this the other day on his radio show, and I’ve been stewing on it since. He was referring to financial stuff, but this idea holds true for the shooting community too.

There’s a lot of lore floating around the web from folks just repeating things they’ve been told without experiencing the things they’re repeating. I can’t say that I’ve never fallen into that trap, but it’s something that I’ve come to recognize as extremely important to me.

The only thing I can tell you is to gain as much experience and skill as possible. Just because someone with a website, podcast, or YouTube channel has an opinion on something doesn’t mean it’s fact. Try new things, gain experience for yourself.

Home Security Commercials

Lady ‘Hot Shots’ Coming Soon!

Fri, 12/19/2014 - 07:33

Looks like the ladies won’t be left out of the Hot Shots TV show for long. It’s awesome that the shooting sports are growing to the point that there is enough room for two Hot Shots shows, on top of 3-Gun Nation, and the rest of the sport shooting shows out there.
