I Need A Dropped/Offset Holster
Ben pointed this out to me from my match video from Sunday’s Fun Match. You’ll notice that the pistol is just beginning to clear the holster, and I’m all leaned over, shoulders crooked, etc.
...Franks Fun Match – October 2014
On Sunday I shot Franks Fun Match at The Range in Oxford, NC. This was my first match with the “bullets out” Ghost mag pouches. I definitely need a lot more practice with them, but the configuration seems promising.
Still waiting for scores to be posted, but I feel like I shot well on all of the stages. A few minor things like giving away a couple more points down than I should have, but overall a good match.
I did catch myself walking away from Stage 4 beating myself up about being 8 points down, but thankfully I caught it, told myself I couldn’t do anything about it, and moved on to the next stage before I let it get in my head.

Don’t Worry About Your Division – 104
One of the most common questions that Ben and I get from people interested in competitive shooting is about what division they will shoot in with their particular pistol. It seems that there’s an abundance of concern placed on getting into the correct division for their first match, and when it comes down to it, it doesn’t really matter what division you shoot in for your first match, because the chances that you will be competitive in the match are very slim.
...Question of the Day: .30-30 Lever Action Rifle for Home Defense?
While surfing the web earlier this morning I came across a forum post (I’d link to it, but I can’t find it now) where someone asked about using a .30-30 lever action rifle for home defense.

He setup a special discount code just for Triangle Tactical readers, so if you’re interested, go here, and use the code TT to get $10 off the price of the webinar. The first webinar is Saturday, October 18, 2014, just a few days away…
...Quagmire of Stupidity – 103
I’ll have full shownotes up in a bit after I get a couple hours of sleep, but here’s the basic rundown of this episode:
-
Ben was in the courtroom for the hearing on GRNC vs. Troxler. He was able to get audio recording of the judge making his (seemingly biased) decision.
-
Durham County shredded their now illegal gun registry last week.
-
Washington DC signed emergency concealed carry legislation into law recently. We go through it, and it’s absolutely nutty.

BREAKING: No Concealed Carry at NC State Fair
From Ben on Twitter:
Judge Stephens has found in favor of the Agriculture Commissioner. No preliminary injunction. No concealed carry at the 2014 NC State Fair.
— Triangle Tactical (@triangletactica) October 13, 2014
I’m not sure what Judge Stephens is using as his justification for this, but we’ll be covering it all on Episode 103 of the podcast tonight. Stay tuned.

Dang Duck Hunting Disturbance
I received a couple text messages from my Dad this morning saying that it was a beautiful day in Northern Michigan to do some duck hunting.
He went on in the next message to say that he didn’t get any ducks because someone landed an airplane in the middle of his decoys…

[NSFW] CSGV “Mean Tweets”
The rabid anti-gunners at the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence released a video yesterday where they read mean tweets that they were directed towards them on Twitter. NC’s own Sean Sorrentino, and Bob Owens were both featured.
The video contains some salty language, but its pretty hilarious:

BREAKING: Durham County Shreds Gun Registry!
This is great news!
Here’s the actual Facebook post from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
The Durham gun registry was made illegal earlier this year, and there was some contention as to what should happen to the entries to the registry that had been entered since the gun registry was established in the 1930’s. Today those registries were destroyed!
Durham County, NC residents, today you are a little more free. Congrats!

2014 USPSA Handgun Nationals – 102
Last week Ben was out in Utah for the 2014 USPSA Handgun Nationals, so this week on the podcast he gives us a nice rundown of the match, and what it was like working as a range officer at the biggest match out there.
...Be Wary of “Cheap” CCW Instructors
350 concealed carry permit holders in South Carolina are having their permits revoked after it has been found that the instructor was not providing the required training.
...ZOMG! Machine Gun Rentals!
Yesterday WRAL wrote a piece about the now under construction Triangle Shooting Academy and in the article they had quote from someone calling the opening of the range “unnerving”, but other than that, the article was pretty tame.
...California Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoes Anti-Gun Bill
Whoa. This is rather surprising given Brown’s willingness to sign all of the other anti-gun bills that have been sent his way. If you don’t believe it, here’s the .pdf hosted right on the ca.gov website.
I am interested how he can realize that this bill would not help advance public safety, but his ridiculous handgun roster, that allows Gen3 Glocks to be sold in the state, but not Gen4 Glocks (because of their extra deadly grip stippling and dual recoil springs) also fails to advance public safety in the state.

Press Conference with Ag Comm Troxler on CCW at NC State Fair
Earlier today, Sean from NCGunBlog.com gave me a heads up about a press conference that was about to take place with NC State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. Thankfully I was able to make it to the event just in time. Here’s the audio (I’ll have video later, but the internets are slow):
...Changing Guns in Changing Times – 101
Recently Australian police broke up a ring of Al Qaeda ISIS terrorists who were planning to head out into public and behead people at random. Late last week a man went into his former workplace where he had been recently fired, and beheaded one woman, and was attacking a second before he was shot by the COO of the company. News is still breaking with details on the case, but both of these incidents have me really evaluating my CCW rig. The weather is cooling off a bit, and having a little bigger gun, with more ammo would be a more comforting for the type of situation mentioned above. I’m thinking I may grab a Gen4 Glock 19 to throw back into the CCW rotation for the winter months with a spare mag, and a leather pancake holster.
...How Do The Professionals Prepare For A Match?
A new (to me at least) YouTube channel called 2AlphaGear posted this video recently where they ask the professional shooters about the number 1 thing they do to prepare for a match:
