Video: Bizarre “River of Sand” Flowing in Saudi Arabia
A video making the rounds on social media appears to show a river consisting almost entirely of sand rushing past onlookers.
The footage was reportedly recorded in Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter, the largest contiguous sand desert in the world.
At one point, the individual capturing the phenomena on his phone reaches into the streaming material and comes up with a handful of sand.
Speculation as to what the "river" actually is ranged from a flash flood carrying sand and other material to simply hailstones mixed with sand flowing atop a preexisting waterway. Whatever it is, it brings new...
Michigan Hunters Help Feed the Hungry
As hunters, we all know the feeling of satisfaction that comes from providing healthy game meat for you and your family. For many of us, it is one of the many reasons we hunt and part of the tradition. As a community, hunters are pretty generous, too. How often has a friend shared a few venison steaks with you, or given you some extra fish from a recent trip? That generous nature has helped propel Sportsmen Against Hunger, a volunteer-based program that aims to get excess game meat onto the plates of the less fortunate.

6-year-old Angler Catches Striped Bass as Big as Himself
A first-grader from Pitman, New Jersey shocked the local angling community when he caught a massive striped bass almost nearly the same size as he was. According to WKBW, six-year-old Sam Adams was fishing off the coast with Long Beach Island with his grandfather, Don Adams, last Saturday when he reeled in a 41-pound, five-ounce fish that measured 46.75 inches long, or just under 3.9 feet. To put that in perspective, the young angler is only 47 inches tall himself.
The impressive fish placed Adams squarely in...
Video: Creepy Footage of Forest Floor “Breathing”
Sometimes, being alone in the woods can be a creepy experience. A man in Nova Scotia captured this interesting footage while hiking near Apple River last month. In the video, the ground appears to be shifting up and down, almost like its breathing.
The reason behind the phenomena isn't very mystical. The movement is actually caused by root systems just barely underneath the soil. When a tree sways in high wind, it also moves the land around it.
"As I entered a patch of trees spared from clear cutting, I noticed the ground moving," Brian Nuttall, who uploaded the video, wrote in a Read more »
Video Quiz: Can You Identify These 10 Gun Malfunctions?
Identifying firearm malfunctions is easy enough after the fact, but can you correctly call these as they happen? Not only is it a useful skill to have, but being able to identify certain malfunctions instantly can save lives---and that's no hyperbole. Last month we posted a video of a range officer spotting a dangerous malfunction at the very last second. In that case, the shooter had encountered a squib and had already racked another round into the chamber. Had the range...
Video: Bear Eats Film Crew’s Entire Stock of Bacon, Steak
If you're going to leave a cabin full of goodies in polar bear territory, you're going to need some strong doors. A film crew working for the BBC series The Hunt were staying in a small cabin on an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean to film polar bears. After one shoot, the crew returned home to find that one of the bears had ransacked nearly everything.
“He ate everything,” field assistant Håvard Festø said, "Steak (nice, marinated steak), sour cream, yogurts, blueberries, the chicken, of course... he ate everything."
The crew's entire stock of food was completely...
Russia’s First All-women Hunting Club Named after Lady Gaga
A women's hunting club in central Russia's Sverdlovsk region are challenging social norms by forming what is believed to be the first all-women hunting club in the country. Members of the club, which has grown to include about 100 women, recently celebrated their one-year anniversary with a photoshoot earlier this November. For unknown reasons, the hunters have named their club "Lady Ga-Ga-Ga," presumably after the singer with a similar name.
"We've heard that there are similar women's clubs in Europe and women there are hunting and no one finds it weird. So we've also decided to try it out...
Large Buck Drags 12-foot Boat Through Minnesota Neighborhood
Despite their graceful appearance, deer can be incredibly powerful creatures. As if to prove this point, a buck in Duluth, Minnesota was photographed dragging a 12-foot aluminum boat and its trailer through no less than three different properties. Arden Stabs first discovered the deer when it was tugging the boat through his yard on October 26.
"That Monday morning I was returning to the house after taking out the garbage when I heard a thumping sound," he told OutdoorHub. "It sounded somewhat unusual so I walked to the back of my house and here was a deer pulling a boat by the tongue of...

Graphic: Deer Fetus Misrepresented as Dead Alien in California
Residents of the San Francisco Bay Area peeked out their windows on Saturday night after seeing strange, moving lights dance across the sky. When images of a slimy, misshapen creature surfaced on the internet shortly afterwards, it did not take long for observers to claim they witnessed an alien encounter. According to Fox 32, Gianna Peponis of San Jose first posted the images to her Facebook over the weekend, claiming that she found the strange creature in her backyard and it was dead by the time she discovered it....
Video: Ever Wonder How Spike Bucks Fight?
When it comes to fighting, even deer have to practice. The video below shows two young spike bucks sparring with another. It may lack the adrenaline and raw force of a "real battle" between two adult males, but for some reason this practice match almost seems more dangerous.
We were fully expecting one of the deer to get their eye poked out by those sharp antlers.
Contrary to popular belief, yearlings with spike antlers can grow normal-looking racks later on in life. There have been plenty of spike bucks that were later documented growing into massive trophy bucks with 10 points or...
10 Things You Must Know about Deer Senses
Many hunters have at some point or another run into a deer that perplexed them. Whether you're sitting in a treestand or moving slowly and carefully on the ground, there are few sights more heartbreaking than when a buck picks his head up, turns his ears around, and is already over the hill before you realize what happened.
Deer must have great senses, right?
Deer have specialized senses that increase their odds of survival, but they're not necessarily "better" than our own. Here are 10 basic but useful facts about deer senses for you to mull over the next time you find yourself...
5 Things to Know About Long Range Shooting
Long range shooting is absolutely addictive. It's a combination of math, science, and art. Mix all those things in the right proportion, and you'll get the satisfaction of a first-shot hit at longer distances than most people walk in a day.
Here are a few things to know to get repeatable positive results when ranges are measured by fractions of miles.
1. Bullets don’t go "up"
There’s a myth that just won’t seem to die. Lots of folks talk about bullets going “up” as they exit the muzzle. Well, they sorta do, but only because the bore is aimed "up" just a little bit as the shot is...
Angler Claims to Have Caught Three-eyed Catfish in Brooklyn
On Sunday, a video that appears to show an angler with a three-eyed catfish surfaced on the internet. The video was reportedly taken near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, which is now recognized as one of the most polluted bodies of water in the United States. If the three-eyed fish is not a hoax, it could be yet another sign of the canal's deterioration.
The website Gothamist.com first broke the news regarding the fish and was able to obtain a video of the creature from a bystander.
"Bunch of people...
Video: Dog Swims Through River to Catch Giant Salmon
Bird hunters rely on their dogs to retrieve fallen birds, but maybe it's time for fishermen to do the same?
Most yellow labs are supposed to be hunters not fishermen, but the dog in this video might be the best canine fishermen of all time. After chasing a salmon through a stream, this pup finally got close enough to grab a large salmon with its mouth.
This might be the best possible game of fetch you can play with your dog.

Video: Man Misses Trophy Buck 13 Times
We're going to preface this post by saying that we're not sure if this video is actually real---we're not sure if we want to believe that it's real. According to Justin Finch, who posted the video on Facebook, a shooter fired off 13 shots at a good-sized buck and missed all of them.
"Yes, this really happened. Opening morning after the bigger bucks got away, we spotted this decent buck. After 8 minutes of shooting, and only having 1 bullet left, the buck didn't even flinch and finally decided he had enough and walked over the ridge unharmed. Needless to say, I was rolling around...
Missouri Hunter Harvests 15-point Buck with Atlatl Spear-thrower
Taking a trophy buck is always a thrill, but taking a trophy buck with a spear-thrower must be even more exhilarating.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announced recently that a hunter in St. Charles County was able to harvest a large 15-point buck with the primitive weapon during archery season. On October 24, Paul Gragg hit the buck from his tree stand at about 3:30 in the afternoon, landing one of the few---and perhaps one of the largest---bucks killed with an atlatl in the state.
"This was the first year he has hunted with the atlatl and it was the first time he threw at...
Video: Angler Pulls Massive Surprise Out of the Ice
When it comes to ice fishing, just about everything is a surprise, but there's no better surprise than a massive fish. From the first moment that you see it poke its mouth out of the water to the realization that your hole is much too small, big fish are part of why anglers brave the chilly weather each and every year.
We didn't want to spoil the surprise, but the video's thumbnail gives it away. What was the largest pike you've ever pulled from the ice? This lady angler did get some scrutiny over the apparent stiffness of her catch---with some even accusing her of filming a dead fish---but...
