Video: Bear Learns How to Shower
Bears usually don't give much thought to personal hygiene. Although they love to take care of a good itch from time to time, you won't often see bears rushing down to the river to get a bath in. That's why this video of bear seemingly washing itself is so fascinating---it even made sure to clean behind the ears!
That's not to say that bears are incapable of grooming themselves. These large, furry predators typically make do with a good rub against trees or boulders, and the occasional dip in a river. According to experts, polar bears are actually among the cleanest of bears simply because...
Photos: Hands-on with the New 9mm Kriss Vector at Big 3 East
Kriss USA was on-hand at Big 3 East last week with new 9x19mm versions of their signature Vector pistols and carbines. They also brought out a select-fire submachine gun version of the 9x19mm Vector, which was incredibly fun to shoot.
Previously, Kriss only offered Vectors in .45 ACP. Offering models in 9x19mm means shooting one will be a bit more affordable. If you're lucky enough to be able to "own" a select-fire version of the Vector, the 9x19mm variant is even more controllable in full auto than its .45 ACP predecessor.
The 9x19mm...
Two Rare Freshwater Sharks Rediscovered in Papua New Guinea
River sharks are among the rarest and most endangered sharks in the world, and two of the rarest were recently rediscovered in Papua New Guinea by a research team late last year. In a report published on PLOS ONE earlier this month, an international team of scientists documented the discovery of both speartooth sharks and New Guinea River sharks in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. It is the first time that either of the species have been seen in the country since the late 1960s and...
Video: Water Snake Drags Catfish from North Carolina Lake
Some people have a fear of snakes and some people have a fear of water. These videos are probably going to reinforce both of those fears.
The uploader of this video was kayaking in Falls Lake, North Carolina when he spotted a commotion on the river bank. That commotion was actually a water snake attempting to devour a decently sized catfish. While this might not be a rare occurrence, it is certainly uncommon to catch it on camera.

Here's the initial struggle between the catfish and the snake. You can watch the snake pull the catfish out of...
Video: Meet the World’s Most Passionate Gun Safe Salesman
This guy could sell even an anti-gunner a gun safe, and he would do it with gusto. It's rarer than it should be to see a salesman with passion for his work, knowledge about his industry, and integrity to boot, but Kurt seems to hit the trifecta. It's a talent to be able to persuade people out of their hard-earned money, but when you get 1.6 million views on a 27-minute-long video on gun safes, you got a gift.
"One of the purposes of our business is to educate," says Kurt. "Because we specialize, we like to educate and make sure every one of our customers understand what they're...
Fishing “Parking Lots” and “Highways” for Michigan Fall Salmon
There are two types of places to fish for Chinooks in the river, said long-time fishing guide Denny Bouwens, as we anchored on the Muskegon River.
“There are highways and there are parking lots,” Bouwens said. “This is a parking lot.”
We were alongside a deep (12 feet) hole on an outside bend. There were several trees in the water to provide overhead cover and there was enough depth that the fish could hunker down and catch their breaths after making the upstream journey from Lake Michigan.
I tied on a big-lipped, perch-colored Junior Thunderstick and began casting, cranking...
Video: What Happens to Your Ground Blind When You’re Away
If you leave your blind in the field, you have to expect that someone's going to make use of it. In this case, it's an inquisitive doe that probably thinks it found the world's best hiding spot---and maybe a stash of food. Perhaps the deer was just curious about the strange little invisible house in the woods, and why humans spent hours there trying to be quiet as possible.

Deer Walks Into Ground BlindThis isn't something you see often (or ever) during deer season!

82-year-old Utah Woman Bags First Bull Elk
It is never to late to start hunting.
82-year-old Margaret Lunt demonstrated this fact when she harvested her first bull elk deep in the Utah wilderness near Morgan last week. Lunt only started accompanying her son and husband on their hunts at the age of 55, but has already built up a reputation for being and avid and accomplished hunter. Bagging a bull elk had long been a goal for the elderly hunter.
Over the years Lunt hunted for mule deer and cow elk, but never had a chance with bull elk until she a drew a tag for the 2015 season.
"I was quite pleased that I can do that at my...
20 Bears in 4 Hours: An Epic Manitoba Bear Hunt
I left Manitoba this June deeply disappointed. For several years I have been trying to complete the grand slam of all four colors phases of black bears. In June, I had a blonde bear in front of me twice but couldn’t get an ethical shot. That bear would have been the one I needed to complete the grand slam with a bow. You can read about that hunt here.
Because I still had an unfilled bear tag in my...
Canadian Composer Mocks American Gun Culture in Satirical Video
Full of poor firearm handling and gun control rhetoric, a music video on YouTube is drawing some controversy over its depiction of American gun culture. Produced by Quebec composer Jean-Sébastien Houle and staring comedian Virginie Fortin as the lead singer, "Guns Bless America" is an overt parody of American gun ownership.
Few people are amused.
"I like the artistic quality, but disagree with its implied message," wrote one user on YouTube.
"Everyone involved in making this should feel ashamed at how pretentious, ignorant, and bigoted this piece of crap is," wrote a harsher...
Deer Season Canceled in Southeastern States? Don’t Believe It
Have diseases like the bluetongue virus and chronic wasting disease (CWD) hit the deer population so hard that several Southeastern states have been forced to close down deer season? If you have spent time on Facebook, you may have heard that North Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, and Mississippi have all decided to stop deer season in its tracks. This led to a small panic among hunters and officials were soon inundated with questions about the status of the state's deer population.
The rumors were completely unsubstantiated and at least two state wildlife departments came forward, calling it...

Indiana Woman Reaches for Gun in Home Invasion, Finds Sword
Karen Dolley is not one to bring a knife to a gun fight, but when an intruder broke into her home last Thursday night, she decided to take out a sword instead.
According to Fox News, Dolley discovered the man inside the living room of her Indianapolis home, and fearing for her safety, immediately started pummeling him with punches.
"Get out, get out, get out!" she recalled screaming at the man, who ran into her bedroom.
The woman tried reaching for her handgun, but failed to find it in the chaos....
Boat Camera Catches Great White Shark Attacking Seal in SF Bay
A camera mounted on the stern of a boat moored at Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay captured an amazing sight a few days ago---a great white shark attacking a seal just tens of feet from tourists.
The action lasts for less than five seconds, but it's still breathtaking. The shark breaches the water and can clearly be seen holding a seal between its jaws. The water near the shark turns red as the attack continues underwater.
The original footage can be seen below:

And here's an edited version that slows down the timeframe that the attack occurs...

Photos: Prototype 6.5 Grendel AK Rifle from Definitive Arms
Definitive Arms is one of the best AK shops in the United States and has created some of the coolest custom and production Kalashnikovs around. At last week's Big 3 East fall event in Daytona Beach, they brought out an exciting prototype: an extensively customized Vepr AK rifle chambered in 6.5 Grendel that was quickly dubbed the "GrendAK."
The base gun used in the GrendAK project is a Russian-made Vepr rifle. The 6.5 Grendel Veprs just recently came into the United States, with the first models offered up for retail sale last month.

Video: How to Lose a GoPro Camera in a Rattlesnake Pit
You would think that of all animals, snakes would be the least concerned for privacy. These are the same critters who congregate by the hundreds during mating season and clump together in balls. Cameras are quite unwelcome to these gatherings.
A intrepid photographer dangled this GoPro camera over a rattlesnake pit and found out that the reptiles had no intention of being filmed. A quick strike from one of the snakes sent the camera tumbling into the pit with a crash.
Many people---and some tomb-robbing archaeologists---may have called it a day, but not this man. Using a hockey stick,...
Video: Watch Hundreds of Guns Blow Up a Car, Set to Classical Music
The fall Big 3 East event in Daytona Beach, Florida ended with a bang last Friday---several bangs, to be precise. After lunch, nearly all of the event's participants lined up at the rifle range to perforate a wrecked BMW smothered with explosive targets. At a signal, shooters opened up on the car and blew it apart.
It was awesome.
I recorded it on my camera, but the audio didn't turn out too well. To compensate for that, the OutdoorHub team set it to Pachelbel's Canon in D. I think it turned out to be very relaxing.

Lost Australian Camel Hunter Survives 6 Days in Outback by Eating Ants
Officials in Western Australia say a 62-year-old man survived nearly a week in one of the world's most inhospitable environments after a feral camel hunt went terribly wrong.
On Tuesday morning, Reg Foggerdy was found by trackers over 100 miles from remote town of Laverton on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert. Foggerdy and his brother had set up a campsite nearby to hunt the feral camels that roamed the borders of the desert, but the hunter became lost after he struck out on his own. For six days, Foggerdy was at the mercy of the elements and ate only the small black ants that he...
