Rapper Drake Visits the Range 702 in Las Vegas

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 12:59

Drake has seemingly taken over the internet in the last week with his "Hot Line Bling" parodies, but today he is making news for his marksmanship skills (or lack thereof). Drake visited the The Range 702 over the weekend and he posted the results of his trip on twitter. Based on the results on the target the Canadian rapper might want to brush up on his shooting skills a little bit. Although, in his defense it appears that he was shooting an automatic which obviously had an impact on...

Montana Man Kills Charging Moose with One Well-placed 9mm Round

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 12:25

A 9mm pistol is not what many people think of as an ideal defensive weapon against large animals, especially bears or moose. Experienced hunters and hikers often pack large caliber revolvers or rifles to deal with these kinds of threats, but one Montana man found that the humble 9mm was more than adequate to save his life, and that of his girlfriend's. According to the Ravalli Republic, the unidentified young man and his companion were walking their dogs on a popular trail near...

Video: This Transforming Boat Trailer Is the Coolest Boat Launcher Ever

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 10:51

The most tedious and difficult part of boating usually happens at the boat ramp, but not with this impressive vehicle. The boaters in question created a hybrid vehicle which combines the boat, trailer, and towing vehicle into one amazing package. It's hard to tell at first, but the boat is actually integrated into the trailer itself making for a pretty slick package. This is obviously a very custom solution so don't expect to find this at your local boat dealer any time soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32kK7lQZSks...

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed last week that the state snakehead record has been officially broken. On October 16, bowfisherman Michael Meade of Upper Marlboro managed to arrow a 17.49-pound snakehead from the marshes of Mattawoman Creek. “It was about 10:30 at night when I brought it onboard, and it was the biggest snakehead I had ever seen,” Meade said. “When I got home, I stepped on a bathroom scale with the fish, and it was over 17...

Video: Epic Slow Motion Bullet Impacts

Mon, 10/26/2015 - 09:20

Slow motion is already pretty standard fare in the world of firearm videography, but this video from Vickers Tactical blows it out of the water. Rarely have we seen bullet impacts in such vivid resolution---or on messier targets. Apples and playing cards are nice, but it is the explosive reaction from the hamburger and water jug that really make this video. Take a gander at it below. https://youtu.be/y9TABaYDfzM  ...

Video: Stubborn Hognose Snake Insists on Playing Dead

Sun, 10/25/2015 - 22:56

Hognose snakes are particular creatures with two main methods of self-defense: either they flatten their necks and pretend to be a cobra or they roll over and play dead. When feigning death, hognose snakes will expose their bellies and leave their mouths open. If you try to flip the snake upright, the hognose will immediately spin around, as if to insist that it's dead. You can see this unique behavior in the video below. https://youtu.be/JqjW4VM1xdE...

Anti-hunting Protesters Obtain List of Florida Bear Hunters’ Emails

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 14:27

Florida's controversial bear hunt begins this Saturday, opening its black bear season for the first time in over two decades. Animal rights advocates and protesters have tried repeatedly to delay or cancel the hunt, including a failed appeal to a state judge to shut the hunt down on the grounds that the species has not yet recovered fully. After the judge ruled in favor of allowing the hunt to proceed as planned, activists vowed to use other methods---and it seems that one of those methods involves nearly every one of the 3,200 hunters who purchased a bear permit. The ...

After the Shot: How to Find, Dress, and Extract Your Harvest

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 13:55

We put a lot of thought and preparation into harvesting a big game animal. Camo, boots, rifles, bows, food plots, treestands---the list goes on and on. But you also have to prepare and gear up for the post-harvest. As the old saying goes, the real work starts after the trigger is pulled. In the field and at home You have to have a good knife to go hunting. You shouldn’t even consider going without one. When it comes time to dress out your game, specialized knives...

UK Angler Snags Line on Wartime Artillery Shell

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 12:51

An angler in the United Kingdom had a close call after he dug up a live artillery shell while fishing near Brean Beach last week. When Barish Odemis got his lines tangled up in some rocks near the beach, his first thought was to dig them up to free them. After some investigation, Odemis discovered that what he had been putting his hands all over was actually a live artillery shell, or what bomb disposal experts call unexploded ordnance. Old and corroded artillery shells can still be found all over the United Kingdom and are considered very dangerous, especially as some may contain...

Legendary Buck Confiscated in Louisiana, Will Not Become Record

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 11:57

Every town has their local deer legends. Typically these are bucks that are rarely seen on trail cams and are as elusive as a whisper during hunting season. Occasionally, hunters get a fleeting glimpse of the deer before it moves out of sight, and so its legend grows. In many cases, any hunter who is lucky enough to bag one of these legendary deer also have a clear shot at the state record, or at least the top five. Such was the case when a guest to a hunting club in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana dragged in not just a trophy buck, but one that was widely coveted in the parish. Excited club...

Video: Man Does Barrel Walk While Shooting AK

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 09:55

If you see this at your local range, you should probably begin running in the opposite direction. This shooter decided to spruce up his regular routine by doing a barrel walk toward his target---all while firing his rifle. His skill and athletic ability are undeniable, but this is extremely dangerous due to a number of factors. Even something as small as a rock in his path could send him flying off. If his finger stays on the trigger, that could mean stray rounds across the range as well. Guns are enjoyable to shoot, but they should never be treated as toys, and pulling a stunt like...

The 6 Best AKs for the Money

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 19:46

The prices of AKs aren't as low as they used to be. The fact that entry-level ARs are cheaper than their Combloc cousins is simply something the gun community now has to deal with. While the cost of a basic AK has gone up, there may very well be more Kalashnikov-pattern firearms on the market today than ever before. But which ones are actually worth buying? I've had the opportunity to own, shoot, or otherwise review all of the firearms listed below (or a representative example from a specific line of guns---I don't own a Vepr in every single caliber they're offered in). I consider...

Massachusetts Bear Spotted Eating Pumpkins

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 15:38

Before you start carving or setting out your pumpkins this Halloween, you may want to consider how close you live to bears. Police in West Springfield, Massachusetts reported seeing a black bear wandering around town on Wednesday eating pumpkins that residents have set outside their houses. According to state wildlife biologist Laura Conlee, it is not unusual to see bears eating pumpkins, especially if they are relatively fresh. "It's a potential food source," she told MassLive.com. "A lot of...

Wolf Attack on Swedish Hunting Dog Caught on GoPro

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 13:50

Moose hunting season in Sweden opened on October 12, but instead of dressing a recently harvested moose, one hunter found himself trying to keep his dog alive after a vicious wolf attack. The following video was sent in to Svensk Jakt, a popular Swedish hunting magazine, and it appears to show two wolves attacking a dog in a forest in the municipality of Sunne. "My first thought was she was in contact with a moose and received a kick," hunter Tommy Berglund said after...

That green score put Millard's deer...

Goodbye $200 Tax Stamp? Bill Introduced to Remove Suppressors from NFA

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 12:33

Wouldn't it be nice if you could buy a suppressor without having to pay a $200 tax on an already expensive item? That's exactly what the American Silencer Association and Representative Matt Salmon (AZ) hope to do with the introduction of the Hearing Protection Act (HPA). The bill aims to remove suppressors from the jurisdiction of the National Firearms Act, which would eliminate the current complicated and expensive process associated with acquiring a suppressor. The reasoning behind the bill is that millions of hunters and shooters are damaging their hearing, and that damage could be...

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 11:40

Michigan's sixth record fish for 2015 also happens to have broken one of the longest-standing records in the state. Last Sunday, Greg Gasiciel of Rhodes was bait-casting with a green grub when he hooked a 9.33-pound, 24.5-inch smallmouth bass from Hubbard Lake in Alcona County. Based on its weight, Gasiciel's fish just nearly edged out a 109-year-old state record that was once thought to be unbeatable. "Smallmouth bass is one of the most popular, most sought-after sportfish in North America. Even though the Michigan state record stood for more than 100 years, we're excited to see the bar...

Video: Bear Cub Gets Stuck in Window after Raiding Kitchen

Thu, 10/22/2015 - 09:43

If there was ever a case of instant karma, it's this. Bears are inquisitive creatures and are scavengers by nature, so it is not unexpected for the animals to occasionally break into homes in the search for food. This is especially true in Russia's Far East, which holds a healthy population of brown bears. This bear still has not mastered the technique of escaping its victims' homes gracefully. According to Ruptly, the bear broke into a house in Kamchatka this week and ransacked the home for foodstuffs. When homeowners returned, the startled cub tried to flee through an open window but...
