Geissele and ALG Defense at Big 3 East: Tavor and AK Triggers and Glock 6 Second Mount

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 15:22

AR-15 owners are probably well-aware of Geissele's triggers---they're some of the best in the game. This year they've released their Tavor Super Sabra trigger pack and Lightning bow, which makes the Israeli bullpup shoot even faster than it points. Dave Bahde wrote a review for us previously on the pack and bow, and loved them. Last week's Big 3...

Destructive Devices Industries Enters the Stamped AK World with a Bang

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 13:38

Since I'm an AK guy, Destructive Devices Industries' (DDI) guns quickly caught my eye at Big 3 East last week. DDI is one of a few companies that's thrown their hat into the partly-American-made AK ring. The company is picking up where Waffen Werks left off (they even bought some of their tooling and honor some Waffen guns' warranties). In 2015 they'll be offering a well-made 7.62x39mm AKM clone at a price point between bottom-of-the-barrel blasters and ultra-high-end,...

Video: Watch This Spanish Bear Play in the Snow Like a Child

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 12:48

Despite their size and ferocity, many adult bears are just really cubs at heart. This trained captive bear in Spain just can't get enough of the snow, and takes advantage of the outing by rolling around in the powdery stuff like a little kid. Described as being originally from the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, the playful beast probably isn't all that used to snowfall. https://youtu.be/n6eF4o5rWUQ...

Legendary Albino Tapir Photographed for the First Time in Brazil

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 10:42

For years, residents of Brazil's Atlantic Rain Forest have talked about a legendary albino tapir that roamed in the heart of the forest. Despite various reported sightings and anecdotal encounters, scientists had no concrete evidence of the creature's existence. That changed when photographer Luciano Candisani ventured into the forest last May and started setting up his cameras in the hopes of capturing a picture of the white tapir. // Raridade! É o primeiro registro de uma anta albina na natureza no Brasil. O animal passou por um dos meus estúdios... Posted by Read more »

Video: “Uptown Funk” Perfomed with Guns!

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 10:11

We posted the viral “Cup Song – Pitch Perfect with Guns!” video a while back, and now Jim and Joe Huish are back with a new hit, “Uptown Funk with Guns." If you were not a fan of the original tune by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, then maybe this new firearm-filled beat will put a smile on your face. We especially thought the X Products Can Cannon added an extra "pop" that makes this rendition even more fun than the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz1HneL4Xgg...

New Book Looks Back at the Infamous Wisconsin “Treestand Murders”

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 10:01

Illinois’ David Whitehurst was deer hunting northeast of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, on November 21, 2004, when he and his friends saw ambulances race by about 1:20 p.m. Soon after, they spotted a plane flying low and slow over the forest in a systematic search. By 3 p.m. Whitehurst’s group learned eight hunters had been shot nearby. Five were dead and a manhunt was underway for the shooter. A sixth died the next day. Whitehurst phoned home immediately to inform his wife before she heard news reports from the Blue Hills, a region he had been hunting for 25 years. By early evening, while...

If You’ve Tried Everything, You Should Give Atlatl Hunting a Shot

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 07:54

Have you ever wanted to go spear hunting but wanted greater range? Are you an experienced bowhunter who wants to try something new---or rather, something very old? Then perhaps you should consider the atlatl. The atlatl is one of the oldest weapons still used in modern hunting today, in many places predating even the most primitive of bows. Essentially a long dart or spear balanced on a thrower, the atlatl can be hurled with great efficiency and stopping power, making it the primary tool of early hunters in many different cultures. Earlier this month world-champion atlatl thrower Dawn...

The 7 Worst Animals to Keep as Pets

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 07:38

Young wolverine in the snow. There's nothing wrong with owning exotic pets. Some people just aren't that interested in the standard dog/cat/fish triumvirate that currently dominates the American pet scene. That's okay---within reason. However, then there are people who fortify a section of their property with cages, fences, and several layers of security systems just to introduce one of the deadliest animals on the continent to their new play pen. Not to mention jumping through hoops in the long process (depending on your state or province) to...

Identifying himself only as "Nick," the concealed carry holder pulled his gun and broke up what could have been a potentially deadly fight. “I was just in my car on North Temple, I saw a guy pull a knife on another guy, a fight ensued, the guy with the knife was swinging it several times at the unarmed person,” Nick told Read more »

Aggressive Mountain Lion Shot Dead by Montana Ranger

Wed, 03/25/2015 - 07:16

A mountain lion was shot and killed in Montana's Glacier National Park on Saturday after the animal attacked two dogs that belonged to a park employee. In a press release, park officials said that the attack occurred when the employee returned to her residence and her dogs immediately raced out of the car. The woman later found a cougar involved in a scuffle with her pets, and enlisted the help of other housing residents to try and separate the animals. One of the dogs managed to get out of the...

Video: Watch These Miniature Horses Act Just Like Hunting Dogs

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 15:56

In many ways miniature horses already act very much like dogs. They can be trained as service animals and are commonly accepted in many countries as assistance animals for people with disabilities. Unlike their larger kin, miniature horses are often found as companions rather than steeds, and their dog-sized shape allows them to go places where larger horses cannot. When compared to dogs, they are faster, have greater stamina, and are stronger. So can they replace hunting dogs for work in the field? Of course not. As herbivores, horses lack the predatory instincts of a good hunting...

Video: Hide Your Glock in a Clock with the Tactical Walls “Tactical Clock”

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 13:46

Though guns are often the focus of events like Big 3 East, there were also plenty of innovative tactical and survival gear products at this spring's shindig. One such product was the "tactical clock." It is made by Tactical Walls, experts in concealment furniture. Though most of their products so far have been larger items like shelves and mirrors, at Big 3 they showed off the clock alongside a tissue box---both of which are capable of concealing a handgun and at...

Video: Hunter Shoots Charging Leopard at the Last Possible Second

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 13:26

Of all the predators that a hunter could come across in the forest, wild cats can be among the most deadly. Equipped with razor sharp claws and a powerful bite, these stealthy predators can shadow humans for long distances without ever being noticed. Sometimes however, they might decide that hunters do make good prey after all. We don't know if the below men were hunting for leopard or something else, but one of the large cats definitely found them.

Hunting wild cats, whether it be mountain lions and jaguars in the new world or leopards in the open savannas of Africa, can be...

Photos: Hands-on with the IWI US Galil ACE and UZI PRO at Big 3 East

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 10:59

I spent most of last week down in Daytona Beach, Florida. Instead of hitting the beaches and the bars, though, I spent my spring break at Big 3 East. I had the rare opportunity to fire thousands of rounds through the firearm industry’s newest rifles, pistols, shotguns, and submachine guns and learn about the latest developments in tactical and survival gear. IWI US' Galil ACE and UZI PRO were two of my favorites. IWI US’ Galil ACE was unveiled at Big 3 East last year, and was available to shoot at...

Photos: The New RS Regulate Galil ACE KeyMod Rail and SVD-305

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 10:58

I spent last week at Big 3 East, a private media event in Daytona Beach, Florida. Some of the most innovative firearm, survival, and tactical gear companies were present. One of those is RS Regulate, the manufacturer of the best AK scope mounts out there. This year at Big 3 they brought out two exciting prototypes that reach outside their "conventional" Kalashnikov products. The GAR (Galil ACE Rail) is the first KeyMod handguard for the new Israeli rifle. The handguard will be made of 6061-T6 aluminum. The GAR improves upon the standard handguard by...

This Video of a Guy “Talking Sh*t” to an Opossum is the Strangest Thing You’ll See Today

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 09:59

This has to be one of the craziest videos we have seen in a long time. The man filming the video noticed an opossum in he backyard and he was not very happy about it. What happened next can only be described as hilarious. The man proceeds to verbally harass and demean in the opossum for over a minute in a futile attempt to make it leave his yard. Enjoy and just remember there is some very strong language in this video so viewer discretion is advised. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlltzUW4PjE&t...

Hunters: Take Inspiration from These 15 Amazing Hunting- and Nature-themed Tattoos

Tue, 03/24/2015 - 07:45

Tattoos of ungulates like deer, elk, or caribou signify many things. In Native American cultures, they are exalted as symbols of rebirth, pride, strength, and protection. In Europe, inked versions of these animals symbolize grace and creativity. In Asia, deer are considered heralds of good fortune and abundance. In North America, tattoos of deer or elk more often than not show a passion for the hunt, and the animal that is hunted. Still, no matter what you want your tattoos to mean, they still have to look good. Thinking of getting tatted up but don't have a design in mind? These tattoos...

Video: This is Why You Should Always Make Sure the Range is Clear Before You Shoot

Mon, 03/23/2015 - 16:01

The following video uploaded by Super-Tactical.com should serve as a warning to any competition shooter who finds themselves getting lax in the safety department. Before you watch, we'd like to remind readers and viewers that sport shooting is one of the safest pursuits out there. The severity of this incident underscores how seriously we as sportsmen and women must take range safety whenever we're out. This is especially the case when shooting on a stage with multiple visual obstacles. https://youtu.be/HUzTIKAbI3k...
