Update from Wolf: More 6.5 Grendel Veprs Coming in March

Tue, 01/19/2016 - 17:53

One of the most unique firearms to hit the market in 2015 was the 6.5 Grendel Vepr rifle imported by Wolf Performance Arms, Ammunition, and Optics. Veprs are high-end, AK-pattern rifles built on light machine gun tooling in Russia. Models chambered in 5.45x39mm, 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm, .308, and 7.62x54mmR have been imported before, but the appearance of a Vepr chambered in the relatively new 6.5 Grendel cartridge was a welcome surprise to many. Though their introduction was relatively quiet, nearly all of the Grendel Veprs were quickly purchased by AK and exotic rifle aficionados. Many...

Video: Herd of Piebald Deer Eating in the Woods

Thu, 12/31/2015 - 08:17

Piebald deer are pretty rare, but spotting an entire herd of them is almost unheard-of. These white-and-brown-spotted deer are not quite as rare as true albinos, but this is still a pretty impressive video. It's likely that these deer are all related and the piebald gene was passed on for a common ancestor at one point. Seeing a sight like this would be a very memorable experience for anyone. Some states do not allow piebald and albino deer to be hunted. This is mainly due to their rarity, and, in some cases, cultural significance. // Now there's something you don't see...

Video: Shooting Exploding Snowballs with a Shotgun

Thu, 12/31/2015 - 08:12

New Year's Eve fireworks are a tradition for many people around the world. Here's a slightly different take on that holiday tradition. YouTuber FullMag uploaded this impressive video as a teaser for his new series of videos for 2016. In the video, Richard Ryan appears to have filled snowballs with some sort of explosive to create pyrotechnic snowballs. The results are pretty impressive. We would not recommend trying this at home. We are really looking forward to a new year of interesting gun videos on the internet...

Video: Deaf Man Explains How He Saved Drowning Deer

Tue, 12/29/2015 - 12:53

Sometimes you don't need to understand someone's language to realize they are a small-scale hero. After this man spotted a deer drowning in a river he stopped everything to try and save it. He even risked his own life by crawling out onto the ice to get a rope around the deer. After some effort he was able to pull the deer out and that's when he started filming this quick video. The deer looks pretty cold, but hopefully it will be able to make a quick recovery thanks to the help of this hearing-impaired hero. In case you don't speak ASL here's a quick translation of what he was...

9/11 Survivor Will Jimeno Keeps Serving with New Jersey Bear Hunt

Tue, 12/29/2015 - 10:46

When you think of New Jersey, "black bear" is not the first thing that comes to mind. Newark, New Jersey is in the shadow of New York City. It’s a heavily-populated area where the population has spilled out onto the countryside; where small acreages and tiny hobby farms have covered up the landscape. People who want to get a little elbow room, to put a little distance between them and the concrete, live here. Bears live here, too. They make a living surrounded by homes and small farms, mostly keeping to themselves in whatever habitat they can find. Occasionally, one of the bears becomes...

There are a lot of great reasons to reload your own ammunition. It can be more economical if you spend a lot of time behind the trigger. Elected to the United States Senate in 2012, Ted Cruz currently represents the Great State of Texas. Mon, 12/28/2015 - 10:44

YouTuber Royal Nonesuch is well-known for his homemade firearms. For this video, he decided to do something a bit different in a more "professional" environment: shoot a machine gun in an office building. In the clip embedded below, Nonesuch takes the reigns of a .50 BMG M2 machine gun indoors. The famous "Ma Deuce" is the longest-serving weapon in the US military arsenal, so it should be pretty familiar to most viewers. The muzzle blast alone from this gun is enough to make your ears ring behind a computer...

The 5 Best Destinations for 2016 DIY Rut Hunts

Mon, 12/28/2015 - 08:53

As a traveling DIY hunter, I am always in search of the next mature buck, no matter where he lives. That has taken me to several states all through the hunting season, from opening day until the final days of the season in a state far from home. But there is one thing for sure: you will find me in one of a handful of places during the first two weeks of November. Because you are reading this website, I do not have to explain the lure of the rut to both hunter and hunted. Sitting in a great spot with confidence boiling over, knowing that at any moment, a rut crazed buck may trot right up to...

Two cowboys, using little more than rope and their time-earned expertise of herding livestock, assisted officers in rescuing this stranded spike mule deer. "Arizona Game and Fish wildlife officers never know what each new day will bring," the department wrote on YouTube. Reliable Hunting Rifle Returns to Action after 30-year Break

Tue, 12/22/2015 - 15:09

The buck vanished when I pulled the trigger about 12:45 p.m. on November 21, the opening day of Wisconsin’s gun deer season. I assumed the buck was down for good, but I jacked another round into my .243 bolt-action rifle and stayed alert behind the scope, scanning the snow-covered woods and fields below. When nothing moved after 10 minutes, I unloaded the rifle, lowered it to the ground and descended from the weathered tripod stand. Minutes later I carefully approached the site where I expected to find the buck. Peering into the woods, I located the red oak I had landmarked before...

Video: Anglers Try to Save Boaters from Collision with Massive Tanker

Tue, 12/22/2015 - 13:47

What would you do if you see a stalled boat about to be hit by a massive, 50,000-ton Venezuelan tanker? Either hope they can follow directions, or hope that whoever is piloting that tanker is able to move the massive ship just a few feet to one side to avoid a collision. This was a very close call that could have easily ended in disaster. These anglers moved in to help a pleasure boat after it stalled in the path of the tanker Horizon Athena. Massive watercraft like the Horizon Athena are very hard to maneuver and take upwards of 20 minutes to come to a full stop, so...

CA Officials Suspect First Wolf Depredation Incident in 100 Years

Tue, 12/22/2015 - 13:33

Wolves are back in California, and as ranchers feared, they appear to have begun taking a toll on livestock. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife recently released its first-ever report on a possible wolf depredation incident, something the state has not seen for over 100 years. In the investigation, officials say they suspect that a calf killed in Siskiyou County last month may have been eaten by a wolf pack. "The report classified this incident as 'probable.' That is, there is some evidence to suggest wolf predation of livestock involving at least one animal," the department...

Virginia to End Concealed Carry Reciprocity with 25 States

Tue, 12/22/2015 - 12:27

Starting February 1, Virginia will no longer honor concealed carry permits from 25 other states that currently have reciprocity agreements with the commonwealth. The decision came after a months-long audit process by the attorney general's office, in which it was determined that most of the 30 states that have reciprocity agreements with Virginia also have significantly weaker concealed handgun regulations. Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced the change on Tuesday. "To ensure Virginia's law and safety standards for concealed handgun permits are applied evenly, consistently, and...
