Palmetto State Armory to Offer Gen 2 AK, 7.62x39mm AR in 2016

Thu, 01/21/2016 - 12:45

Palmetto State Armory (PSA) is a huge name in the AR-builder world. Next to companies like Brownells, they’ve probably supplied the largest number of Americans with parts to assemble their own modern sporting rifles. Aside from their AR offerings, they’ve shown a willingness to expand into other platforms. At SHOT Show this year, they announced that they’ll be launching a second generation of their AK-pattern rifle, the PSAK-47, and a 7.62x39mm AR, dubbed the KS-47. In contrast with the first-generation 7.62x39mm PSAK released in 2015, the second-gen model will feature 100-percent...

SC Lawmaker: Journalists Should Have to Register Like Gun Owners

Thu, 01/21/2016 - 10:38

A South Carolina State Representative drew both criticism and support after he recently filed a bill that would require journalists to register with the state, much like concealed carry permit holders. According to Mike Pitts (R-Laurens), he conceived the bill after noticing that the national media continued to demonize gun owners and the Second Amendment. "The issue for me is more on national journalism all the way down. Every time I turn around, there's a spin on the Second Amendment," Pitts told the ...

Video: First Look at the AK That Shoots .50 BMG

Thu, 01/21/2016 - 09:35

It may have all the aesthetics of an AK-style rifle, but this beast is in a whole league of its own. Designed by up-and-coming YouTuber and independent gun maker Brandon Herrera, this rifle is chambered in the absolutely massive .50 BMG---and it shows. According to Herrera, the AK-50 is constructed mainly out of 4140 steel, aluminum components, and milled using CNC technology. Fear not, it will accept a host of standard AK furniture and even takes Barrett M82 magazines. Herrera said there will be no cast parts used for the...

The Best New AR Products from SHOT Show 2016

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 19:13

SHOT Show 2016 is here, so it's time to check out all the latest gear. Let's take a look at some of what's new for the AR platform. 1. Timney two-stage drop-in triggers This year at SHOT Show, pigs flew. I saw one in the Timney booth. For years, the company response to customer requests for two-stage triggers was “we’ll make one when pigs fly." Well, heat up the frying pan because the bacon is airborne. When a Timney focus group tested two different varieties of the two-stage trigger with different first-stage pull lengths, preferences were about evenly split. Half of the...

Photos: Wildly Experimental Soviet Small Arms Designs

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 16:41

In their quest for the perfect man portable weapons system the Soviet Union came up with some very interesting design concepts. Some of these even ended up as production firearms that you recognize today---some didn't. This album lays out the various design concepts of the Soviet Union, and it breaks them down by weapon type and design bureau. These concepts vary from wild prototypes like the TKB-022 to guns that actually entered service like the RPK. This fascinating gallery will show you a number of dead end gun designs, and some that were just too far a head of their time. If you make...

4 Discontinued Revolvers That We Want Back

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 16:37

It's always disappointing when a company discontinues a product you like, especially if you have been pushing off buying it until it is too late. When it comes to guns, you're left with either buying it second-hand at a significant markup, or clamoring for the manufacturer to reintroduce it. Why wouldn't they, you think to yourself as you stare longingly at the gun of your dreams through a computer screen. They would be swimming in money if they ever did. Yet for whatever reason, some guns just never find themselves back on the catalog. These are the four revolvers that we---and thousands...

Hill & Mac Gunworks Introduces Modern StG 44 at SHOT 2016

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 15:28

The Sturmgewehr 44 is one of the most iconic firearms from the Second World War. Held up as the original mass-production assault rifle, the flexibility and performance of the StG in the 1940s spurred the development of similar firearms by all major world powers, including the Soviet AK-47. For most shooters, the StG has remained an object of myth---very few original, fully-automatic rifles made it to the United States. This summer, Georgia-based Hill & Mac Gunworks (HMG) will start selling a “reborn” StG 44 tailored for the modern market, allowing a new generation of gun owners to get...

Video: When It’s So Frozen You Have to Dig a Hole for Your Auger

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 14:58

At this point, we don't know if these men are trying to drill a hole for ice fishing, or take part in some scientific experiment. According to the post that followed this video on Facebook, these anglers had to carve out a hole in the ice with chainsaws so they could get down to a depth where their auger could actually reach the water. Apparently it took them three hours before they managed to drill through the last of the ice. We have no idea where this took place, but we can assume it's somewhere in Russia. Super thick ice is not unheard of in this part of the world, and during...

Study: Eating Fish while Pregnant Could Make Your Child Smarter, Reduce Chances of Autism

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 13:09

It beats playing classical music next to your tummy everyday. Anglers always knew that fish were brain food, but a new study may indicate that consuming fish while pregnant could result in measurable increases in IQ for the baby. According to an observational study published this week in the American Journal of Epidemiology, moms who consistently ate three to four servings of fish per week---or about 21 ounces---were linked to a 2.3 point increase in their baby's IQ over those who do not...

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 09:49

At last year's SHOT Show, the world was formally introduced to Kalashnikov USA. Following the Obama administration's ban on the importation of rifles made by the Russian company Kalashnikov Concern, RWC Group, an importer of said rifles, decided to make their own AKs here in the United States. They planned on doing so under the new name Kalashnikov USA. Though they've been oddly silent the past year, Kalashnikov USA (KUSA) was out in full force at SHOT 2016. They’ve just begun...

Kel-Tec Expands RDB Line, Kicks Bullpup into Full Production

Wed, 01/20/2016 - 01:40

This year, Kel-Tec is expanding their fledgling RDB rifle line with one of the oddest bullpups to date. The RDB-C is a California-compliant version of their downward-ejecting rifle. By removing the rifle's pistol grip and shipping it with a five-round magazine, the RDB-C is ready to take on the least-free State in the Union. Removing the pistol grip from a bullpup rifle is a challenging concept to say the least. Take a look at this new configuration. The shooter can either wrap the thumb of their shooting hand over the barrel or fold it alongside. This uses a traditional crossbolt...

Tue, 01/19/2016 - 22:29

The Calico pistol is famous for its 100-round magazine, but this video features two of them firing at the same time. For those of you keeping track at home, that's 200 rounds of .22 LR being fired in a matter of minutes. Of course, the Calico pistol is also famous for it unreliable helical magazines.
