Video: Making a Knife from Broken Pruning Shears
Why throw away perfectly good pruning shears when you can transform them into a new knife instead? This craftsman decided to breathe new life into an old gardening tool, and with a bit of experience and the right set of tools, turned it into a knife that any of us would be glad to have on our belts.
"I bet every man that ever held some pruning shears imagined them as a knife. I know I did! That's why, when we broke the handle on ours I decided to make a knife out of them," wrote The Small Workshop on YouTube.

Video: How to Cook an Awesome Steak on a Shovel
Here's an unorthodox cooking method that is sure to "impress" your next barbecue's guests.
This surprisingly simple steak recipe requires only five common ingredients: salt, olive oil, your choice of meat, a heat source, and a shovel. The shovel serves a replacement to your average grill grate. The shovel provides an excellent cooking surface that still lets all of the charcoal flavor in the meat. It also keeps the meat from being overpowered with charcoal tastes because it lacks the holes that a normal grill surface provides.
Most importantly, you will look like some sort of culinary...
Is Marco Rubio Really Pro-Gun?
So far, we’ve looked at Donald Trump and Ben Carson in our series investigating whether Republican presidential candidates are really pro-gun. Finally, we’re getting to the professional politicians so we can inspect their actual voting records. Will their walk be consistent with their talk?
Along with Trump and Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio seems to be in the top three for the race. How does the Cuban American and US...

Video: Shooting the “Most Powerful Handgun in Canada”
By now we have all seen at least one video of someone having a very hard time handling a revolver chambered in .500 S&W Magnum. This custom, single-shot 12 gauge handgun might be able to give the .500 some competition in the "uncontrollable recoil" department.
The shooters in this video work their way up to heavier loads and you can actually see the visible increase in recoil. While this might be the most powerful handgun in Canada, it's probably not even close to the most powerful handgun on the world.
Out of a full-length barrel, a powerful 12 gauge round can...
Study: In Conflicts Between Grizzlies and Polar Bears, Grizzlies Win
Ever wonder who would win in a fight between a grizzly and a polar bear? Both rank among the most powerful predators in North America, but common sense suggests that since polar bears are larger, it would give them a significant edge in any conflicts with their brown cousins. However, a new study by the US Fish and Wildlife Service found that in encounters between the two species, polar bears often end up losers.
For the study, researchers documented the best place to observe grizzly and polar bear...
Great Last-minute Holiday Gifts for Hunters
My wife always says that I’m so hard to buy gifts for. If I want it, or as I say it “need it,” then I already have it. Really, though, it’s not that hard to buy a sweet last-minute gift for me or any other hunter in your life. Here’s a list I gave my wife. Maybe it’ll help you too.
Bow ho ho
One of the things I look forward to around the holidays is bowhunting. Why not get me a new crossbow?
I like the Cabela's Instinct...
Video: Building 12 Gauge “Tactical Bomber” Slugs
Our friend TACTICAL G-CODE sent us this video of him designing and building his latest exotic shotgun rounds.
These particular rounds are some of the most-requested designs he has ever had. The rounds feature a hardened steel core and tip with dimples cut into them for improved aerodynamics. The core and tip are then threaded into the aluminum base.
YouTuberTAOFLEDERMAUS is going to be testing these rounds in an upcoming video, and needless to say we very...
Video: Bald Eagle Steals Freshly-caught Salmon from Otters
These otters should be thankful the eagle didn't have a bigger appetite, or it may have been one of them on the dinner plate instead of the salmon. In this video, a family of otters decided to bring their catch of the day to the surface near some docks. Not the best of ideas with a bald eagle nearby.
Bald eagles are actually notorious for swiping food from otters. They do it so much that scientists actually have a term for it: kleptoparasitism. Eagles will also steal food from ospreys, herons, or just about any predator they can overpower, intimidate, or outfly. There have even been...
Rare Venomous Sea Snake Found in California, Credited to El Niño
For the second time in three months, a rare venomous sea serpent has been found in California.
The Surfrider Foundation reported that a yellow-bellied sea snake was recovered during a beach cleanup event on Bolsa Chica State Beach last week.
In October, another yellow-bellied sea snake was discovered in Silver Strand State Beach.
“It is incredible and fascinating to have two of these aquatic, highly venomous snakes suddenly show up around here,” Greg Pauly, herpetological curator at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, told the ...
Boy Scout Leader Held Captive by Bear, Rescued by Troop
Three Boy Scouts in New Jersey are being hailed as heroes after rescuing their leader, 50-year-old Christopher Petronino, from a bear den last Sunday.
According to CBS News, Petronino and the three scouts, aged 10 to 12, were hiking near Split Rock Reservoir in Morris County when they came along a cave. Petronino said he was familiar with the cave and wanted to give the scouts a glimpse of what an unoccupied bear den looked like---only to find out that the cave was very much...
Video: Rare Piebald Fawn Spotted in Tennessee
Have you ever seen a piebald deer in the wild?
These white-and-brown-spotted deer may not be as rare as true albinos, but running into one is still a special occurrence. This piebald fawn was spotted in Tennessee while browsing with another, normal-colored fawn. Piebald fawns have a lower chance of surviving in the wild, as they are more likely to be born with deformities or attract predators with their unusual coloration. This only makes adult piebalds that much rarer.
Some states protect piebald and albino from hunting. This is mainly due to their rarity, and, in some cases, cultural...

Video: Catfish Devours Fish Bigger Than It in Under a Minute
Did this catfish just bite off more than it can chew?
Catfish are known for their appetites but this video shows the absolute extreme of that behavior. The catfish in the video engulfs the entire head of it's prey in one bit, but it's just getting started. Over the next minute of the video the catfish struggles to fit the entire fish into it's stomach. In the end the catfish is so full that it looks like it might explode.
This is creatively a lesson in gluttony from the animal kingdom.

Indian Woman Questioned for Ammo Inquiry, Claims Racial Profiling
An Indian woman in California is claiming that she was racially profiled after police arrived at her house and questioned her over a recent inquiry about buying ammunition at a Dick's Sporting Goods store.
According to Sim Sangha, two officers visited her in her East Bay home last Friday and asked her about her trip to the store. She later learned that one of the employees at Dick's called officers after her visit and said that she was acting suspiciously. Officers later apologized for the visit and said that the reaction may have been related to the recent shooting in San Bernardino, in...
Hunting Michigan Late Regular Season Geese
Joe Robison had been scouting a cut corn field for a while, watching hundreds of geese pour into it in late morning. We made a plan to be there before dawn on Friday.
On Thursday, the farmer chisel-plowed the field. It didn’t change our plan; it just made everything a little bit tougher.
“It’s harder to than heck to hide in a chisel plowed field,” Robison said. “These geese are going to be here. But we’re not going to be able to drive everything out there to set up.”
To top things off, it was raining. It wasn’t coming down hard, but it meant we were going to have to...
Video: Incredible Footage of the Florida Mullet Migration
The Florida mullet run is a sight to behold for anglers. Every year millions of these fish head south along Florida's Atlantic shore, a veritable feeding frenzy for predatory fish. The migration not only offers anglers a spectacle, but also excellent fishing opportunities for shark, tarpon, snook, redfish, jack crevalles, ladyfish, and other predators that come to feast on mullet schools.
The best part? All the live bait you'll ever need is right there.
If you've never seen the mullet run in person, then this video may convince you to take a trip to Florida in the near...

"Earlier this year, Cabot acquired a 35 kg portion of the prized...
Why You Shouldn’t Catch an Electric Eel Barehanded
Everyone knows that electric eels can deliver a powerful electric shock to predators and prey. Well, maybe not everyone.
We are not exactly sure what sort of decision-making process led up to this man getting electrocuted by an eel. We can only hope that he thought he was chasing after a normal eel and not one that can deliver 1,000 volts of electricity. In the end the man received a nasty shock from the eel he was chasing.
Hopefully this gentleman learned his lesson.
