The NRA Foundation: Preserving Our Heritage, One Person at a Time
Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “your tax dollars at work.” It doesn’t paint a very inspiring picture, does it? The government takes your money, then proceeds to waste it.
Fortunately, voluntarily giving money to organizations like the NRA Foundation is a much more satisfying experience. Have you ever wondered what exactly all those Friends of NRA banquets benefit? As it turns out, the list of beneficiaries is quite substantial.
Last year, the NRA Foundation raised just over $42...
Video: Rabbit Fights Off Snake to Protect Its Babies
Rabbits falling prey to snakes is not surprising, but you rarely get to see rabbits successfully fight back.
This mother rabbit found a snake in the process of eating her offspring when the rabbit jumped jumped on top of the snake and started to bite it. After a drawn-out struggle, the rabbit successfully repelled the snake, which may have been enough to save her young.

The Best Cameras and Gear for Filming Your Own Hunts
Many hunters have aspirations of someday making it big by having their TV show, but most hunters who are filming their own hunts are just doing it for the fun of it. Filming yourself has advantages and disadvantages. I prefer the time alone in-stand to the issues associated with having a camera person along: there's twice as much scent, twice as much movement, and twice as much work. I will gladly take the trade-off of not getting quite as much footage in exchange for hunting and filming alone.
There are a few things you need to know about cameras and accessories that will make your...
Video: Chris Cheng Plays Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” with Musical Targets
Many firearms enthusiasts know that Chris Cheng is an accomplished competitive shooter and author.
As it turns out, he's also quite a talented musician---at least when the music-making involves shooting things to make melodies.
In the video below, Cheng blasts out a stirring rendition of the "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony using Musical Targets and a Volquartsen Custom Superlite .22 LR rifle. Maybe next time he'll sing the chorus himself.

Police Urge New York Hunters to Check Trail Cams for Escaped Prisoners
At a press conference on Monday, New York State Police urged hunters to check their game cameras for possible footage of two escaped prisoners in northern New York.
Richard Matt and David Sweat made national news earlier this month when they cut their way out of the Clinton Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in Dannemora. The US Marshals Service have since added both convicted murderers to the list of the country's 15 most wanted criminals. According to CNN, police believe that at least one of the escaped...
Video: House Cat Stares Down Mountain Lion
Cats love to stare out of windows, but it's not every day that a mountain lion stares back.
We're not sure if this cougar simply dropped by to say hello, or if it wanted a quick snack, but the house cat certainly didn't mind. Showing a strange lack of common sense, the tiny feline sits calmly as the cougar probes the window for weaknesses. The larger cat even threw in a hiss or two, but that didn't seem to worry this kitty in the least. Finally, a concerned mother was able to shoo the predator away.
The video was taken by comedian Tom Mabe, who lives in Kentucky. We're pretty sure he got...
Pope: Firearm Manufacturers Can’t Call Themselves Christian
Pope Francis harshly criticized "weapons manufacturers" in a speech he made on Sunday during a trip to the Italian city of Turin. According to Reuters, Pope Francis made an appearance in front of thousands of young people and spoke at length on subjects such as the Holocaust and Armenian genocide, although he did not specifically refer the latter event as a genocide. The Pope also mentioned the "duplicity" of "weapon" makers and businessmen who advocate for peace while producing guns and other arms.
"It makes me think of ......
Video: Drunk Man Rides Swimming Moose after Chasing It down on a Boat
Riding a moose like some giant, angry pony is never a good idea.
Not only are moose responsible for more attacks on humans than most other wildlife species, mounting one can land you some serious jail time and hefty fines. This video uploaded to YouTube shows this group of men chasing down a swimming moose before one of them hops on its back and holds on for dear life. Eventually, the moose was able to buck its rider off and makes its way back to shore---but not without giving the boaters some angry looks.
This is a textbook example of wildlife harassment and they just put it on tape. It...
Video: Unexpected Cat Passenger Gets Ride of Its Life on Ultralight Plane
Pilots and aircraft mechanics are meticulous. Before taking flight, replacing parts, or doing just about anything that relates to an air-worthy vehicle, an exhaustive process must be followed.
Apparently, as the video below shows, none of those processes remind pilots and maintenance personnel to remove cats from the wings of said vehicles.
According to the clip's description, it was recorded in Kourou, French Guiana, and the cat is the airfield's mascot. After this flight, we'd say it's earned a few extra catnaps for its trouble. As long as they're far away from other...
Throwing Big Baits for Big Michigan Trout
For once, the weatherman was right. He’d promised mostly overcast and some rain, and by 8:30 a.m., it started falling. Which is just what we wanted.
Most guys don’t especially want to fish in the rain. But that’s the prescription for what we were doing---throwing big jerk baits for trout.
I was with Denny Bouwens and his buddy Drew Blackall on the Muskegon River just downstream from Croton Dam (the first dam upstream from Lake Michigan), where some big brown trout are known to live.
“It’s matter of choosing the right day,” said Bouwens, who is a long-time fishing guide...

10 Hunting-themed Photos You Can Never Live Down
It's true, not everyone can be photogenic. When you've been in the woods for hours and convince one of your buddies to take a picture of you and that big buck you just harvested, the most you can do is rub the sweat out of your eyes. After all, this photo should last you a lifetime right?
Then there are people who take these kinds of pictures effortlessly. In fact, their pictures will tell stories for years to come---and on this list, that's not a good thing. The funny part is that half of these don't even come from the outdoors.
Here's 10 pictures that are either really funny...
Video: Folding-fin “Rocket” Shotgun Round
This is yet another homemade round that you should never try yourself. Using some toggle bolts and faucet washers, YouTube's Taofledermaus crafted this bizarre looking slug with folding-fins. While it may be a creative and unique way to destroy your shotgun barrel, the placement of those fins hardly give this projectile any aerodynamic advantages. If anything, those fins should have made the slug tumble through the air like a crazed ballerina with rabies.
Instead, we were pleasantly surprised at the results, which you...
Montana Decides to Eliminate Chronically Diseased Bighorn Herd
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) announced earlier this week that it will be seeking to depopulate a chronically ill bighorn sheep herd in the Tendoy Mountains. The agency added that hunting will be the primary method of removal for the herd of 30 to 40 sheep, and it will later be restocked.
"Approximately 50 bighorn sheep will repopulate the Tendoys once all members of the diseased herd are removed. The healthy sheep used to restock the area will be from a yet to be determined herd in need of management...
Ohio Man Nabs State Record Hybrid Striped Bass
When Richard Knisley first hooked a massive hybrid striped bass late last month, he initially mistook it for a good-sized catfish. The 41-year-old angler was fishing in Ohio's Deer Creek Lake on May 24 when he reeled in the state record fish, which he said was the first striped bass he ever caught.
“When I got him close to the net, I couldn’t tell what he was,” Knisley told The Columbus Dispatch. “He turned sideways, and I thought, ‘Look at the...
Video: Kung Fu Bear Masters Stick Fighting
What happens when you give a bored bear a stick? Well, apparently they develop their own method of stick fighting/baton spinning. This video was reportedly taken in a Japanese zoo as fascinated tourists gathered to watch this black bear do its thing. Not only does it seem to have a firm grasp of basic spinning methods, the bear also launches the stick into the air several times and deftly catches it---much to the amazement of bystanders.
Move over Kung Fu Panda, it's time for this black bear to shine.

Quiz: How Well Do You Know Smith & Wesson?
Founded by two New England gun designers, Smith & Wesson still proudly bears their name over a century and half later. This prestigious gun maker almost never came to be, as it is a little-known fact that the eponymous Smith and Wesson sold their first gun company---which focused on a lever-action pistol---to a shirt manufacturer. That shirt maker's name was Oliver Winchester.
Early stumbles aside, Smith & Wesson eventually rose to become one of the biggest names in American gun manufacturing. How well do you think you know S&W? Test your history and trivia knowledge in our...
Video: Golfer Trying to Retrieve His Ball Gets Attacked by Gator
Golf courses are full of man-made hazards meant to trap your ball. Sometimes, natural hazards make their way on to the course---like this alligator.
The golfer in this video found out firsthand that some hazards are just not worth playing through.
After somehow hitting his ball next to a gator, he decided that recovering his ball was important enough to try moving the reptile. Of course, the alligator was not cooperative and in the process of wrestling the gator the man received a bite on his arm. Luckily the golfer was alright, but we can't help but wonder what led him to make such a...
Video: Deer Has a Hard Time Eating a Bird
This tiny Florida Key deer found out the hard way that it just may not be cut out to be a predator. A dogwalker reportedly filmed this video near Big Pine Key when they found a deer munching on what appeared to be a dead mourning dove. It is unknown if the deer actually killed the bird in question, but judging from its determined chewing, it certainly wants to get some meat in its belly.
Deer predation on birds and bird eggs is actually well-documented. Despite their "innocent" reputations as herbivores, deer do not mind consuming the occasional tidbit of meat. Deer have even reportedly...
Jackson’s Famous Antler Arches Get a Makeover
After almost a decade, the famous antler arches in Jackson, Wyoming have finally been rebuilt with fresh sheds. The four arches, built primarily with elk antlers, were originally constructed between 1953 and 1969 by the Jackson Hole Rotary Club to mark the four corners of George Washington Memorial Park. Over the decades, wear from the elements have rendered the structures unstable and officials worried that the arches could be dangerous. That is why the club decided to raise funds to rebuild the arches in 2006, using all-new equipment and, most importantly, thousands of pounds of new elk...
