Man Attacked by Bison in Yellowstone after Approaching It with iPad

Fri, 06/05/2015 - 12:36

Officials at Yellowstone National Park say that a 62-year-old Australian man was tossed into the air several times by a bison after he got within five feet of the animal. The incident occurred on Tuesday after a crowd had gathered around a resting bison near Old Faithful. Bison are not an unusual sight in the park and are allowed to roam freely, but finding one so close to the asphalt path attracted many tourists. Bystanders say the victim was a part of the crowd and was reportedly taking pictures of the animal on his iPad. "Possibly, the person who ends up being gored or attacked is...

Video: Sloppy Gun Maintenance Almost Goes Horribly Wrong

Fri, 06/05/2015 - 09:49

This is quite possibly one of the worst ways to empty a firearm we've ever seen. Just because you have a gun that looks like it's cobbled together from random pieces of sheet metal and plywood doesn't mean you should be lax on gun safety. If anything, you should be more careful. Instead of pointing the gun in a safe direction, this man decided to empty this gun with the muzzle resting just between a young boy and another man on the hammock. After removing the magazine and giving the weapon a good shake, he pulls back the bolt, possibly expecting to eject the live round, but instead it slam...

Fri, 06/05/2015 - 08:02

One of the questions most often asked in concealed carry community is "What is the best carry gun I can get for x amount of money?" It is one that is extremely difficult to answer. Every time someone asks what the "best" thing in a specific category is, they can expect to be assaulted by brand partisans on all sides. This is particularly true with gun owners. When we have a good experience with a firearm, we want to talk about it and extol its virtues. After all, one day we may have to trust our lives with it. We racked our brains on great concealed carry guns and came up with...

Green Lasers Help Make Firearms More Effective

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 15:45

Anyone who’s ever played a game of Candy Crush knows our eyes see some colors better than others. Green is one of the colors humans see best, and it is currently considered the latest and greatest in laser sights for firearms. Green laser sights required a bit of an engineering leap due to their stronger pull for power. Figuring out a practical battery life was the challenge, but perseverance paid off, and green laser sights are definitely the rage in 2015. Green falls into the center of the color spectrum---remember the ol’ Roy G. Biv acronym to memorize the order of the...

Video: Waving Bear Makes Effortless Catch

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 15:12

This brown bear should consider a career in baseball. The Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, Washington---where this video was apparently taken---is famous for its waving bears. This bruin, however, is not impressive because it waves, but because it uses its lightning-fast reflexes and excellent hand-eye coordination to snag a slice of bread. Sure the catch is not particularly impressive if it had been human, but for an animal that can grow up to 2,000 pounds, it's pretty cool. Like most of the other animals at the Olympic Game Farm, it is likely that this bear as retired a career in show...

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported this week that a 14-year-old girl was knocked unconscious on a boat when she was struck by a sturgeon about four to six feet in length. The incident occurred on Sunday when Heavyn Nash was boating with her mother and grandfather on the Suwannee River, where sturgeon have been observed jumping due to the...

Video: Mysterious Live “Worm Balls” Appear in Texas

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 11:38

That's a lot of bait right there. Texas wildlife officials at Eisenhower State Park are stumped by the appearance of large, living worm balls that have started congregating on park roads. Officials speculate that recent rains may have brought to worms to the surface, but have no idea why the creatures decided to group together in clumps. Are they working together to better survive intense rainfall? Is it some kind of mating ritual? Are they summoning Shai-Hulud from the arid world of Arrakis? Some experts say the worms are actually communicating through touch, although what more they...

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 10:14

Video: Jerry Miculek’s “Concealed Carry” Flamethrower

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 09:50

You're probably going to need a bigger IWB holster for this "concealed weapon." We're not sure how to break it to Jerry, but we don't think that throwing a vest over something automatically makes it concealed carry. At the very least, it presents a massive printing issue. In this tongue-in-cheek video, Jerry gets to put his hands on a X-15 flamethrower by the Cleveland-based company Xmatter. According to the manufacturer, this flammenwerfer weighs a hefty 49 pounds and has a maximum range of 50 feet. With a fuel mix of 90 percent diesel and 10...

Texas Company Offers Functioning, Lego-esque AR-15 Stock

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 07:41

Feinstein Gewehr Werke, LLC, a Dallas-based plastic brick kit manufacturer, has a near monopoly on a very, very niche market. That is because the company is one of the few---possibly only---manufacturers that produce functioning AR-15 stocks out of plastic bricks. "Our kits enable you, your child, or grandchild, to build an AR compatible gun stock you can mount on your AR, or any rifle or shotgun that takes a standard AR buffer tube," the company stated on its website. Video: Octopus Shows Off Its Swagger with Coconuts

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 07:20

Have you ever seen an octopus attempt to "walk" with its tentacles? It doesn't happen often, but it is profoundly strange to see one of these cephalopods try to use its tentacles as legs. We're more used to seeing octopuses glide along the bottom of the ocean like some kind of nightmarish sea spider, but apparently they have adapted this method to carry large objects such as coconut shells. Why a coconut shell? Well, for an octopus, a coconut shell makes for a perfect protective shelter. This is especially prevalent in areas without the rocky crevices that they prefer, or if on the...

Maine’s Pro-gun Governor Refuses to Sign Constitutional Carry Bill

Wed, 06/03/2015 - 15:30

On Monday, the Maine House of Representatives voted 83-62 to approve LD 652, a bill that would allow state residents to carry a concealed handgun without a license. The bill previously passed through the state Senate in a 21-14 vote and if signed into law, will make Maine the newest state to adopt what many have called "constitutional carry." LD 652 is now headed back to the Senate for review of two new amendments to the proposal, and if the amendments are kept, the bill will head straight for the desk of Governor Paul LePage. A staunch defender of gun rights and a supporter of permitless...

Move over Bear Grylls, someone else has found a use for urine, and not just as a refreshing beverage either. The video below is quite possibly one of the most obscure skills you will ever learn. However, if you are stuck in a desert without any kind of gear besides a clear container and a full bladder, this is how you make a fire with urine. Of course, you could just learn more traditional fire-starting skills, or maybe track down some water, which will work just as well in a pinch. There are dozens of ways to start a fire that doesn't have to resort to peeing in a plastic wrapper. Yet,...
