Road Rage Shooting Leaves One Dead in Fort Worth, Texas

Sun, 07/04/2021 - 13:00

19-year-old JaDerek Gray was shot and killed last Friday after brandishing a firearm at another driver. Splitting lanes and/or weaving through heavy traffic on his motorcycle (splitting lanes, for what it’s worth, is not legal in Texas as it is in some states), Gray was forced to weave around an SUV, the driver of which apparently did not see him approaching from behind as the SUV began to change lanes.

This was enough to incense Gray, who parked his motorcycle in a manner that blocked traffic.

It’s been a couple weeks since I completed the 2021 Wolverine 5K. The people I meet at events like this that inspire me to not just write about these competitions, but also to get in the trenches with the people that spend their precious time reading my ramblings.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige Signs Three New Gun Control Bills Into Law

Sat, 07/03/2021 - 13:00

Hawaii Gov. David Ige (D) on Thursday signed three new gun control bills into law. Supporters are referring to the laws as “gun safety” measures.

Ghost guns

The first bill, known as HB 1366, amends laws dealing with so-called “ghost guns.” Before this bill was signed into law, it was a Class C felony to manufacture, purchase or obtain non-serialized firearm parts in the state. HB 1366 amended the Class C felony to now include the possession of non-serialized firearm parts.

FBI Data Show the Media Overstate the Number of Mass Shootings By a Factor of 10

Sat, 07/03/2021 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

According to a recently released report from the FBI, there were far fewer mass shootings over the past four years than were reported by the Gun Violence Archive, a private nonprofit that provides the data cited most often by the mainstream media.

The FBI found that while active shootings are increasing, they are not nearly the threat the Gun Violence Archive and the media would have you believe.

The FBI’s NICS System Can’t Keep Up With the Demand for Background Checks

Sat, 07/03/2021 - 08:00

In recent years, the FBI — which manages the system that vets gun buyers — processed an average of 8.6 million gun background checks annually, according to historical data analyzed by FiveThirtyEight. But last year, the bureau processed 12,761,328 background checks, according to FBI data obtained by FiveThirtyEight through a public records request.

Perhaps most alarming, the FBI never finished over 316,000 background checks in the first nine months of 2020 alone — far more than in any other year on record.

Gear Review: Vortex SPARC SOLAR Red Dot Sight

Fri, 07/02/2021 - 16:00

The phrase “budget red dot” has mostly lost its meaning. Most red dots — outside of a prominent Swedish firm — have dropped in price considerably in the last few years. The technology is relatively simple, and economies of scale mixed with the laws of supply and demand have helped lower entry into the market considerably.

Sure, plenty of junky red dots still exist, but SIG, Vortex, Leupold, Holosun, and more are making quality red dots for less than $300 bucks.

Ask Josh: Is a 300 BLK Worth It If You’re Shooting Unsuppressed?

Fri, 07/02/2021 - 10:00

Sometimes things get stereotyped for a reason. I don’t see a need to further elaborate on this, as those of us who live in the real world already know it. Guns have the same problem in popular culture. M16’s (AR’s) jam and are unreliable. AK’s are in accurate, but indestructible. Hi-Points are never bought, only stolen, etc.

You get it. The 300 BLK was designed around suppressors, and reader Jeff A asks this:

Thank you for publishing the above referenced article.

Missouri’s Second Amendment Preservation Act Working As Designed…So Far

Fri, 07/02/2021 - 08:00

The passage of the Second Amendment Preservation Act, which blocks Missouri police from enforcing a variety of federal gun laws, has alarmed gun control advocates and sparked concern that it could hamper police efforts to arrest violent criminals or confiscate their guns.

Emails obtained by The Kansas City Star show federal prosecutors in eastern Missouri have asked at least a dozen police departments whether they will stop participating in federal gun crime investigations.

Our ‘Assault Weapon’ Ban Victory Has Been Stayed by the Ninth Circuit. Now What?

Fri, 07/02/2021 - 07:00

In California, a small company has set its sights on quietly working to claw back your Second Amendment rights while keeping you legal in the meantime. Kali Key was founded to give its customers a way to keep their rifles in the face of “assault weapon” bans and then use the resulting sales to directly support grassroots 2A organizations like San Diego County Gun Owners (SDCGO).

SDCGO is a close partner of the more famous California-based Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC).

All of the parts from this build, with the exception of the Underground Tactical take-down and pivot pins, came from 80% Arms and Brownells.

San Jose’s New Gun Fee and Insurance Mandate Sound ‘Like Pre-World War II Poland’

Thu, 07/01/2021 - 15:00

From Gun Owners of California . . .

Sam Paredes, Gun Owners of California’s Executive Director made the following statement on the City of San Jose’s mandate for gun owners to carry liability insurance and pay a fee to cover taxpayers’ costs associated with gun violence.

“There are so many things wrong with this that it’s tough to know where to begin,” said Paredes. “Can residents of San Jose expect a door-to-door check from city inspectors asking about guns in the home?

Obama: I’m Greatest Gun Salesman in History – Biden: Hold My Beer

Thu, 07/01/2021 - 14:36

Surprise! June’s gun sales figures was only exceeded by 2020’s gargantuan total as people were confronted by post-George Floyd violence and mayhem on their TV screens last year, accompanied by their local politicians’ calls to defund the police. Almost 1.3 million new guns were sold last month (again, as the National Shooting Sports Foundation makes clear below, that drastically understates the actual number).

According to the NSSF, Americans bought an adjusted total of 4.3 million new guns in Q2.
