Undercover officers selling guns on Facebook
A few months ago the hoplophobes were complaining about people buying guns on Facebook, yet as we see here, Facebook is a great resource for cops trying to get criminals into trouble:
STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) — A Storm Lake man has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing firearms that he purchased using Facebook.

Women are discovering new places to conceal handguns
Being a guy is a blessing, we can pee standing up, we don’t get pregnant, and most of the holsters are designed for us. However, I’m glad more women are shooting, and thus an entire new industry is being developed to cater to the needs of women shooters.
ARGYLE, Texas — Last year, almost 67,000 women in Texas got a permit to carry a concealed firearm. But some of them complain they often have to keep their guns in their purses because they can’t find a comfortable way to hide the weapon on their bodies.
“Most holsters have been built for men’s bodies,” said firearms instructor Karla Pohl. “Women are built differently, and we dress differently.”
And that has led to a booming industry. There are now garters, ankle holsters, female-friendly waistbands, and “flash bang” bra holsters.
Carrie Lightfoot, owner of The Well Armed Woman, said that’s a particularly popular place to conceal a handgun.
“It’s kind of a natural location, depending on the size of the gun and the size of the ‘guns,’” she quipped. “We have some things to consider, and it’s not for everyone. But it’s about options. Women just need options, because one day a woman is wearing a dress...

Want to shoot your gun in state-owned land? You’re gonna have to take a drive
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — State and local officials are hosting a public meeting Tuesday to discuss alternative locations for shooting ranges near Traverse City that have drawn complaints from area residents.
The shooting area is informally known as Hoosier Valley, about 15 miles from town. It has become popular with a variety of gun enthusiasts, including those using semi-automatic firearms.
People living nearby have raised concerns about noise, safety, road congestion and litter.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has drafted interim rules on matters such as shooting hours and permissible targets while a new location is sought.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center. Officials will discuss three alternative sites on state-managed land. All are in outlying townships and within a half-hour’s drive of Traverse City.

New Anti-Gun Group: Nevadans for Background Checks
Know thy enemy:
“The Liberator” called a catastrophic failure
Here’s an interesting article about 3-D printed guns:
Tests conducted by the University of Warwick have resulted in a 3-D printed gun being labelled a “catastrophic failure.”
The gun, named the Liberator by its American developers was tested by Warwick School of Engineering’s Dr Simon Leigh.
Dr Leigh was working in collaboration with the West Midlands Police’s National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) department.
Speaking to the Independent Dr Leigh commented that during the tests the gun: “Ranged from small failure to complete catastrophic failure.”
The tests were broadcast by the BBC and drew the conclusion that the 3-D printed weapon is more of a danger to the shooter than the intended target.
The problems the firearm suffered included the barrel breaking apart, with fragments of the pistol found subsequently embedded in the roof of the firing range.
Further tests will be conducted by Warwick researchers to understand the causes of these failures.
Head of NABIS, Detective Chief Superintendent Iain O’Brien, remarked: “There is a curiosity factor with 3D printers and those interested in playing around with the technology may not realise the danger they are facing.
“Producing a firearm in this way is illegal...
The myth of control
The following paragraph from Jimmy Buff is enlightening regarding the psychology of anti-gunners:
My push for better gun control, for instance, comes not just from a philosophical place but from one of fear and loss of control. Gun violence in schools terrifies me, and a way to get that terror under control is to speak out about it. It seems like an action when I feel impotent to do anything else. The same is true for man-made climate change. Feeling powerless to prevent the world environment from going haywire – no matter how many cans I pick up from the street to recycle — I instead speak out, in the hopes that by doing so my fear for the world our children will inherit is lessened somehow. I am doing something. Whether that is an illusion or not, only time will tell.

Veronica Cassidy is for gun control because she wanted to shoot herself
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something surprises you. Here are some excerpts from Veronica Cassidy’s blog.
I settled on shooting myself.I thought I could buy a small handgun and keep it in my dresser until I was ready. I would wait until I was alone for the night. Then I would retrieve the gun, take it into the bathroom and call the police. I figured they at least have training in how to handle a gruesome scene.…When I researched New York gun laws, the plan stalled. It’s nearly impossible to get a handgun license in New York City, unless you can prove your employment requires it. The application for a rifle or shotgun is long, expensive and tedious, and involves five visits to 1 Police Plaza. (Since the passage of the New York SAFE Act this year, there are additional restrictions.)

In late December, I flew into Phoenix alone.

While Ron talked, we passed a gun store. It was not quite on the main road, but down aways, standing alone amid the cacti. There was a sign with a big downward arrow and the word “Guns.” I knew I couldn’t buy anything there with an out-of-state ID, but I figured with a smile and a good cover story, they could...

Concealed Carry Saved My Life: Anthony Broyles
Why get a concealed carry license? Here’s why:
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho–A Coeur d’Alene man was attributing his life to having a concealed weapons permit on Wednesday.
Anthony Broyles said he and his two-year-old daughter were approached by a man with a knife. Broyles said he thought the man wanted to kidnap his daughter.
Broyles had spent four-years in the marines and said his military experience gave him a sixth sense when it comes to threat assessment. He said he was glad he was packing his pistol on Wednesday.
“I believe in carrying weapons,” said Broyles.
Broyles had a fun day planned with his daughter at Higgins Point along Lake Coeur d’Alene.
“Me and my daughter were parked here and I was standing by the vehicle on the rail. There was a van that was parked in that direction with two gentlemen sitting in it,” said Broyles.
Broyles said a man came towards them with a knife as they looked towards the lake.
“I turned around and there was a guy that was sneaking up on me…probably about 15 feet behind me and he asked me if I had any money,” said Broyles.
Broyles obtained an Idaho concealed weapons permit in 2014. He said he...

Guns make violence worse?
Stupid letter of the day:
Many years ago, a wise man advised me that if I ever had occasion to pull a gun on someone, I better be prepared to use it, otherwise, it might be taken from me and used against me.
Fast-forward to the senseless beating of one Valley priest and the murder of another one. While listening to police accounts of the crime, something stood out. Police stated that, after the initial beating, “the priest went to get his gun.” What?
Clearly, the priest has to have some accountability for the homicide that killed his colleague. We will never know, but maybe it would not have escalated into murder, at least by gun, had the priest not gone for his weapon.
Good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun — not this time.
