Two Separate Gun Show Shootings on the Same Day

Sun, 06/29/2014 - 17:09

One was accidental, one was in the parking lot.

Gun Show Shooting #1

A vendor has accidentally shot a woman in the leg while demonstrating a gun and holster at a US gun show.

The Columbia County district attorney’s office in Pennsylvania will determine whether the vendor, Geoffrey Hawk, will face criminal charges stemming from the weekend shooting at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, Officer Brad Sharrow said.

Hawk, 44, of Warminster, hasn’t returned calls to his cellphone and business, In Case of Emergency Enterprises. He was manning a booth for his business at the Eagle Arms Gun show at the time of the shooting.

Hawk told police he thought the gun was unloaded when he demonstrated a concealed-carry wallet holster to the woman, Krista Gearhart, 25, of Orangeville. Gearhart was treated and released for a thigh wound at Geisinger Medical Centre in Danville.

Hawk told police he had done the same demonstration about 20 times without incident before the shooting, “racking” the gun’s slide to clear it of bullets each time, Sharrow said. Somehow, the gun was loaded when Gearhart was shot.

Police said Hawk told them he had left the gun on display when he completed background checks on some customers and...

Ice-T’s grandson involved in accidental shooting

Sat, 06/28/2014 - 07:56

The haters are going to try to connect the dots between Ice-T being pro-gun and Ice-T’s grandson having a gun accident. Yet there are not dots to connect. Here’s the accident:

Peter Rodgers thinks his son bought automatic weapons

Fri, 06/27/2014 - 11:02

The father of the Santa Barbara Shooter is apparently unable to distinguish between semi-automatics and fully-automatics.

He recalls with a twinge of regret the what-could-have-been moment when Elliot’s alarmed mother called police on her son, but they left after Elliot convinced them that his online rantings were harmless. At that point Elliot had already purchased three guns and had been practicing at a firing range in preparation for his “retribution.”

Peter Rodger said he does not blame the police, but would like to see the law changed so that gun checks are required on these types of calls. “If they did do a gun check, they would know that Elliot had bought three automatic weapons. They would have the right to seize him for 24 hours, and his whole scheme would’ve been over and thwarted,” he said in an exclusive interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters.

Magazine limit upheld in Colorado

Magpull was right in leaving:

A federal judge on Thursday upheld Colorado’s new state law limiting the capacity of gun ammunition magazines, rejecting an effort by sheriffs and others to overturn the 2013 law.

U.S. District Chief Judge Marcia Krieger issued her 50-page ruling after a

14″ Artillery Shell Hits Home

Thu, 06/26/2014 - 12:37

Gun haters love stories like this one, yet they ignore that an accident can happen with anything, not just weapons:

A homeowner in Wyandotte, Oklahoma is awaiting damage assessments after an artillery shell entered his home.

It was fired at the Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot and Trade Show on Saturday, around 3 miles a way.

Homeowner Gene Kelley could not fathom what he found after hearing a large crash inside his home.

“It’s unbelievable,” Kelley said. “Unless you were here to see it or see the pictures I’ve got, you would not believe how huge this thing is.”

A 105 howitzer artillery shell, 14 and a half inches long and 3 and a half inches across, was lying on his bedroom floor.

It entered from the outside wall, hit the ceiling, and damaged another wall, all while he and his wife were home.

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt,” Kelley said.

Homeowners say if the shell had not first hit a tree limb and then the ground, the impact would have been a lot more severe when it hit the house.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says the shell came from a historic artillery canon fired at the gun show.

The gun range owner says the weapon was fired safely by professionals at...

Tacoma Police Chief Opposes “No Questions Asked” Gun Buyback

Thu, 06/26/2014 - 08:47

A lot of police chiefs are anti-gun, but some of them have real integrity and realize their job is fighting crime, not guns.

A gun buyback or “turn-in” event in Tacoma might be abandoned before it’s even officially proposed. Some politicians like the idea but the police chief thinks it just doesn’t work.

Pro-Gun candidates win Colorado primary

Wed, 06/25/2014 - 16:00

MDA claims most Americans want gun control, but as these primaries show, that’s not the case at all.

DENVER (AP)Republicans in a pair of suburban Denver districts nominated conservative, pro-gun rights candidates Tuesday to represent them in races that could give the GOP a majority in the state Senate for the first time in a decade.

In Senate District 22, which covers Lakewood, Tony Sanchez defeated Mario Nicolais, a party attorney who helped draw maps during state redistricting in 2011.

In Senate District 19, which includes Arvada, Laura Woods defeated Lang Sias, a veteran of both Gulf Wars. Woods was involved in two recall petition efforts against former District 19 Sen. Evie Hudak.

Both districts are considered toss-ups, and political analysts saw the defeated Nicolais and Sias as more established candidates who could have attracted independent voters in November. Nicolais advocated passage of civil unions for gay couples last year, and Sias narrowly lost to Hudak in 2012.

Hudak was targeted for recall because she voted with fellow Democrats to pass gun-control laws last year. She resigned before signatures were turned in during the second recall effort.

Democrats selected Rachel Zenzinger to take...

Everytown for Gun Safety Releases New Stats

Wed, 06/25/2014 - 13:28

Like holocaust revisionists that claim Auschwitz had swimming pools, Everytown for Gun Safety now claims the government statistics are wrong.

Two children die almost every week in unintentional shootings — far more than government statistics show — according to a new study by Everytown for Gun Safety.

Medical examiners sometimes categorize shooting deaths of children as homicides or suicides before investigations or court proceedings are complete, and that puts more young lives at risk, says the gun-control group’s president, John Feinblatt.

“If you don’t have the right numbers, then you don’t understand the scope of the problem and how to prevent it,” Feinblatt says. “If fewer gun owners left their guns loaded and unlocked, fewer children would be killed.”

His group examined every publicly reported case of a child gun death from Dec. 15, 2012, through Dec. 14, 2013.

Nazi and Civil War-Era Guns will be Auctioned in Scottsdale, Arizona

Wed, 06/25/2014 - 11:58

Great news for gun collectors:

Guns and gems go up for sale at a Scottsdale auction house Thursday, July 3, including a 1981 Super Bowl Joe Montana San Francisco 49ers sample ring.

A second auction on Wednesday, July 9, highlights hundreds of African masks that were once auctioned at New York auction houses Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

The ring, which J. Levine Auction & Appraisal is valuing at between $3,000 and $5,000, is a salesman’s sample ring engraved with the name of the Hall of Fame quarterback. The size 11, 10-carat gold ring has a 5.7 millimeter diameter cut faux diamond in the center with more faux diamonds depicting the shape of a football.

More than 150 guns also are for sale. They range from the Civil War era to modern times and include several Nazi weapons. Among them is a 1945 Walther P-38 Nazi Waffen Grey Ghost expected to sell for between $3,000-$4,000 and a Nazi Waffen Mark 9mm, model 1939, which could fetch up to $4,000.

Auction house owner Josh LevineCQ said the April auction of some guns belonging to Wyatt Earp brought gun collectors from three different estates forward to sell the guns.

“That’s what brought them out of the woodwork and it kind of put us on the map with guns,” Levine...

Rand Paul Wants to Restore Felons’ Voting Rights. What About Their Gun Rights?

Wed, 06/25/2014 - 07:09

Reason’s Jacob Sullum writes:

This week Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) plans to introduce a bill that would restore the federal voting rights of nonviolent felons who have completed their prison terms or served at least a year of probation. Citing figures from the Sentencing Project, Politico notes that “nearly 8 percent of the black population currently cannot vote, compared with 1.8 percent of the nonblack population.” As Paul points out, blacks are also disproportionately affected by the mandatory minimum sentences he wants to abolish. Politico cites evidence that Paul’s support for such reforms is helping him among African-American voters: “A recent poll in Kentucky showed Paul garnering 29 percent of the African-American vote—a huge bump from the 13 percent he received during his 2010 Senate campaign.” Asked about the political calculus underlying his criminal-justice proposals, Paul says: “I believe in these issues. But I’m a politician, and we want more votes. Even if Republicans don’t get more votes, we feel like we’ve done the right thing.”

I agree that it’s the right thing, although I would support the broader approach favored by the ACLU, which would restore voting rights to all felons who...
