Apprentice/Journeyman/Master – 122
When learning a skilled trade in the old world, people fell into one of three categories: apprentice, journeyman, and master. The apprentice was the first step to learning the trade, and the apprentice would be paired with a master with whom he would learn all there was to learn from that master. The apprentice would then graduate into a journeyman, where he would go and learn from many different masters. After the journeyman had completed his learning, he would then become a master himself and have his own apprentice.
...TWANGnBANG on the Proposed XM855 Ammo Ban
TWANGnBANG talks about how stupid “armor piercing” laws are, and he articulates it a whole lot better than I did when I tried to basically say the same thing on the latest episode of the podcast. Have a watch, and give him a like/subscribe.

Story Time With Luke: XM855 and Steel Wool
With all the recent hubub about XM855 ammo (more about that in Episode 121, I thought about what happened a few years ago after a friend of mine bought his first AR-15.
...Shooters and Gun Guys
This week we try to define, and explain our perspective on things as shooters. In the world of gun owners, there are a bunch of different types of folks, but most commonly, we find ourselves interacting with shooters, and gun guys.
...3 Years… Whoa
This isn’t the actual anniversary of Triangle Tactical, as I originally started the site on Blogger, and it was terrible, so I switched to WordPress after a couple weeks. Cool though, 3 years. Yay.

I’m a Terrible Person, and I Like to Mess With Other Peoples Match Video
And I’m not ashamed to admit it. At the Sir Walter Gun Club USPSA match on Saturday I found myself at one point with 4 cameras on my person to film other people shoot their stages. I really like doing it, but a while back I started messing with someones video at each match to make it even more fun. At first I would say silly things, or just record a 15 second video before they started shooting of me staring into the camera, but nobody seemed to notice, and I never saw any of my hijinks make it onto YouTube.
...Some Folks Paint Their Guns to Look Worn…
I’ve just been practicing a lot.
That’s kydex from the inside of my holster embedded in my slide. I’ll take this over a fancy paint job any day.
Been getting probably 200 dry fire draws every day and this is starting to happen after a couple weeks of being on a solid dry fire routine.

Caleb Giddings Just Solved The Production Optics Problem
Caleb, in his recent appearance on Ben Stoeger’s new version of his podcast as a Google Hangout, went on a profanity-laced rant against Production Optics that is both awesome and correct. I’m not going to embed the video because, seriously, profanity, but if you want to experience the awesome, click here to go right the start of the rant.
...Where to Start in Competitive Shooting – 120
We received a question from a listener about where to start in competitive shooting, and what the differences between IDPA and USPSA were. For beginners, looking to shoot their very first match, Ben and I agree IDPA is generally the best place to get your feet wet. Ben breaks it down into three areas:
...USPSA Match Video: Tear Me Apart
Alright, here’s video of my first USPSA match since May of 2014. Just a couple days before the match I switched from ‘bullets out’ mag pouches to ‘bullets forward’ pouches and the transition wasn’t bad at all.
...A Lesson on Having Fun While Shooting
Osage Combatives wrote a great post on his Facebook page yesterday that I had to share here on the blog:

Post by Triangle Tactical.Competition is fun, but make sure you’re getting enough enjoyment out of your shooting to keep you doing it for the long haul.

Durham County, NC is Hindering Gun Ownership
Several months ago I was contacted by a coworker asking about purchasing a handgun for self protection. He asked how it works in North Carolina, and I explained the whole process of needing either a Pistol Purchase Permit or Concealed Handgun Permit for any handgun purchase, no matter where he buys it. He seemed satisfied with the information, and we didn’t speak about it again until last week.
...New IDPA Rulebook: Holy Crap They Got it Right!
I was standing in line at the coffee shop this morning when I got a text from a friend asking if I had seen the new IDPA rulebook yet. I haven’t been an IDPA member for several years, so I didn’t get the memo that the new rulebook had been posted.

DIY: PVC Drain Pipe Holster
On episode 118 of the podcast we played a voicemail from podcast listener Robert about his first match and he talked about making his gear for USPSA out of PVC he purchased at the hardware store.
...Ares Armor 99% Lower Receiver Not Intended to be a Firearm
I love the folks at Ares Armor. When I first came across them they were fighting for their first amendment right to keep their billboard up even though the city where their store is located wanted it to be taken down.
